About Mammoth Mountain

We are a very diverse company and offer over fifty different unique jobs with about 2,700 of us in total during the peak Winter months. Whether you like working indoors or outdoors, directly with the guests or more behind the scenes, we have a lot of choices.

And our schedules and work environments are pretty diverse, too. About a third of us start work just before Thanksgiving, the rest come on about December 20th, and then we all make it happen until at least mid-April when things begin to slow down. Many of us stay on into the “secret season” of late April and May, some even on into the summer.

Please note: We are not approved to hire on the H2B Visa at this time. Our J1 space is currently extremely limited, and we are unable to guarantee Housing.

Room and Board

We run a significant housing operation, with over 450 beds. We charge employees a nightly rate, and take that right out of paychecks. Mammoth does not offer meal plans, although we offer significant food discounts, and people working Food & Beverage jobs get a free meal with every shift worked. Once you get a job with us, we work with you on the housing options, and you are able to learn much more and see rate sheets and pictures on our employment website.

Employee Perks

Did you know that as part of your employment at Mammoth you receive a free season pass, including free access to all other Alterra resorts? Grin inducing, isn’t it? More about the benefits and perks of your adventure here:

  • Ski passes for dependents (spouse/child(ren)) includes free skiing at other Alterra Resorts
  • Discounts on ski/snowboarding lessons
  • Friends and Family vouchers
  • Retail & Food discount
  • Equipment Rental discount
  • 401k with company match
  • Partner discounts with companies such as Yeti, Smartwool, LucasOil, and more

Getting Here and Getting Around

Like many mountain resorts, we stand alone in a pristine, remote place. Most people get here by way of Reno, Nevada (to the north), or Los Angeles, California, to the south. There are some limited ground transportation operations that work pretty well for those coming in from those points and not driving their own vehicles. There is good information about all of this on our website. Oh, there is really good bus service all around town and to our work locations, too, and it’s FREE.

For Fun

Mammoth is a year-round paradise. During the winter, take some time to explore our 3100 vertical feet over 150 trails. Learn to Cross-Country ski at Tamarack Lodge. Enjoy some amazing meals and nightlife in The Village. Test your adrenaline with runs at Woolly’s Tube Park. During the summer, enjoy world-class fishing on one of our many beautiful alpine lakes. Get dirty in one of the best bike parks in North America. Lose yourself in the wilderness while hiking or backpacking. Discover one of the most beautiful places in the world- Yosemite National Park.
