About Gardiner Market

The Gardiner Market is a locally owned store that's been in the same family for over 40 years. We are situated on the bank of the Yellowstone River less than a mile from the original entrance to Yellowstone National Park. In addition to selling groceries and outdoor supplies, we are also the Montana State Liquor Store.

Gardiner is a great setting if you want to be close to Yellowstone but aren't quite ready to give up cell phone service, internet, and a bit of civilization. This is your chance to live and work in an authentic Montana community. It's not uncommon to walk out your front door to be greeted by deer, elk, bison, big horn sheep, and even bears in the fall! You'll be a part of a community of wildlife-watchers, geyser-gazers, cowboys, hunters, and everyone in between.

In addition to an outstanding grocery store, Gardiner is home to churches, restaurants, bars, rafting and zip-line companies, fishing guides, and plenty more to fill your days!

The Employee Experience

Market staff work hard and make millions of people happy, literally. You will work with and meet people from all over the world. You'll make lasting friendships and life-long memories. We strive to offer whatever people need, be that fresh, quality produce for the family that's been living on fast food for three days while getting here, organic, grass-fed beef for someone looking for a taste of Montana, or just a variety of choices that people worry they can't find while away from home. You'll love how good it feels to help people have an outstanding Yellowstone experience. And you'll be amazed at the cool Gardiner locals that are eager to know you and help you make the most of your time here.

Getting Here and Getting Around

There are plenty of folks living in Gardiner who don't have cars or rarely use them. Housing is right next to the store. It's pretty easy to hit up a friend or co-worker for a ride to Bozeman or Yellowstone National Park. We have bikes available for summer staff to use.

The airport is 1.5 hours away in Bozeman, Montana. The bus station is 1 hour away in Livingston, Montana. We are happy to arrange transportation for summer seasonals.

If you're here year-round and like to be mobile, a car is a good idea as it opens up regional activities. There is no public transportation in Gardiner.

For Fun

Did we mention that Yellowstone National Park is your backyard? OK, if that's not enough, you are also surrounded by the Gallatin National Forest and Absaroka/Beartooth Wilderness Area. You could live here your whole life and never run out of trails to hike, peaks to bag, or rivers to fish.

In the day you can hike, raft, float, fish, zip-line, ride horses, and watch wildlife. Like night skies? Pull up a night sky map. See that dark spot in the Rockies? That's home.

Winter in Gardiner is a bit of an anomaly. We are in a snow shadow so we don't get much snow in town and we have a ton of sunny days. But head 5 minutes in to the mountains and you're in prime habitat for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
