About Four Winds * Westward Ho

Working at Camp is one of the most important jobs you will ever have. Our campers spend four weeks here at a time discovering who they are, having fun, and forming real connections.. all in a stunning natural environment. They can't do it without you!

Ideal Candidate

You understand the value of unplugging from phones and ipods, and connecting with kids. You know how to roll with the punches, but also know when to step in and lead. You have a sense of humor, and a tremendous work ethic. You are a good person, and you care about children and your community. Whether you are working in the kitchen, or leading trips, or the camp driver, you are dedicated to making a difference in a child's life, and being part of Four Winds.

Room and Board

Lodging ranges from heated dorm-style accommodations to rustic (but awesome) wall tents on wooden platforms with great views.

Lodging, meals, and laundry are included.

Employee Perks

Salary is competitive, and benefits include room, board, and weekly laundry service. We pay bonuses for advanced certifications (WFA, Lifeguard, WSI, WFR, etc), travel stipend, and extra pay if you are able to work for our Junior Session at the end of the summer.

In addition to the job perks, the San Juan Islands are simply an outdoor lover's dream. The island life is idyllic and inspiring. The kayaking, hiking, and beachcombing opportunities are endless.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Four Winds * Westward Ho is located on Orcas Island, which is among the San Juan Islands in the Northwest corner of Washington State. We’re about 2 hours north of Seattle by car, and easily accessible by car, bus, airport shuttle, or seaplane.

Getting Here

By Car: From Seattle, drive Interstate 5 North. About 65 miles North of Seattle, take the highway 20 exit towards Anacortes, exit #230. Follow the signs to the San Juan Ferry.

By Shuttle: There is a shuttle bus that runs from SeaTac Airport and Downtown Seattle a couple of times a day. It will bring you right to the ferry terminal at Anacortes, and you can walk on the ferry. We will pick up staff at the Orcas ferry landing when they arrive.

Getting Around

For transportation, you can bring a bike, car, or nothing at all! Our staff tend to catch rides with fellow staff into town on their days off, if they don't have their own car or utilize the camp shuttle.

For Fun

You'll have 9 or 10 days off during the summer (the middle two are back to back). Days off are 24hrs, spread about a week apart, and typically breakfast to breakfast, which allows you enough time to get around the island and often time to explore a few neighboring islands as well.

Most staff spend time on their days off in the island town of Eastsound. There you'll find a library (with free wifi), cafes, restaurants, shops, a movie theatre, parks, and small art galleries.

The other islands are accessible by ferry (no charge for walk on passengers) and have tons going on. Summer brings markets, festivals, and all kinds of events to the area.
