Cape Fox Tours is a tourism company located in Ketchikan, Alaska. We operate guided cultural, culinary and historical land excursions along with transportation services for other tour operators in Ketchikan.

We are looking for highly motivated adventure-seeking individuals to join our team for the summer season. Training for most positions starts mid-April. We operate around the Alaskan tourism season including vacations on cruise ships, airlines, and ferries; work trips and conferences, and stay-cations for the locals. The summer season runs from mid-April through the end of October.

Getting to Ketchikan

Alaska Airlines offers multiple daily flights between Seattle and Ketchikan, and the Alaska Marine Highway System (Alaska State Ferry) connects to Bellingham, WA. It is the employee's responsibility to make their own travel arrangements. Ask the hiring manager for a discount code when booking flights on Alaska Airlines.

Once in Ketchikan

A vehicle is not necessary but makes exploring the area a lot more fun and easier. You can bring your own vehicle via the Alaska State Ferry, one of the barge options (Alaska Marine Lines or Samson Tug & Barge), or purchase/rent one in town. 

The Ketchikan Gateway Borough provides bus transportation throughout the City of Ketchikan and outside city limits. Route prices and passes may vary.

    Demonstration Chef

    Cape Fox Tours is seeking a friendly and customer service-oriented Chef to help with different tours throughout the summer. The Chef will be responsible for providing an enjoyable experience for the guests and be able engage in friendly conversation with them while providing demonstration.     Diesel Mechanic

    $28.00 - $32.00 / hour

    Cape Fox Tours is in search of a diesel mechanic who can perform scheduled services and repair work on a wide range of equipment, including motor coaches, vans, service trucks, and shop tools. During the operating season, the mechanic will be required to maintain and service the equipment as needed. During the winter season, the mechanic will be responsible for major equipment repairs and conducting annual inspections of the fleet.

    Duties Include:

    • Changing oils, fluids, and filters, conducting lube jobs, and minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, and tires, repairing leaks, etc.
    • Establish a routine system to identify mechanical defects in equipment and implement repairs as needed.  Prioritize and perform year-round maintenance and repairs to include diesel engine repair, air brakes, air suspension, chassis, electrical systems, transmissions, A/C systems, body repairs, etc. 
    • Work with Safety Manager to review the daily vehicle reports submitted by drivers; troubleshoot and repair any issues that arise in day-to-day operation. Work with drivers to gain an understanding of general systems of all equipment, so that they may facilitate safety and achieve high levels of operation for the equipment that they operate. 
    • Gain an understanding of pertinent Federal and State DOT regulations and integrate routine compliance into all aspects of work.  Complete all related paperwork in a professional, accurate, consistent, and timely manner.
    • Work with the Maintenance team to appropriately handle all aspects of assigned projects on motor coaches, vans, and other company equipment. Aspects of projects include competitive procurement of parts, supplies, or sub-contractors, performing work, and ensuring that all work will be completed promptly, and within the approved budget.  
    • Assist as needed to fill in for drivers on tours or transfers as needed
    • Work with management to quickly assess situations and work with the operations team to relay information via proper channels in the event of circumstances out of the norm (tour deviations, passenger incidents or injuries, etc.). 
    • Maintain open, clear, and positive communication regarding all aspects of vehicle maintenance and safety with the General Manager, Operations team, and drivers.
    • Possess knowledge of Company Policies and Procedures
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    • A current Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements (training available if needed)
    • Prior experience or formal education/training in maintaining and repairing diesel engines, air brakes, chassis, and electrical on heavy equipment and (preferably) motor coaches.  Applicants must provide their own basic hand tools. 
    • Will need to be certified as physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle according to a U.S. Dept. of Transportation physical and NIDA urinalysis drug screen.  Candidates must be willing to submit to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and just-cause drug & alcohol testing.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and a good, safe driving record (no more than one moving violation or “at fault” accident in the last three years).  DUI, DWI, negligent or reckless driving convictions automatically disqualify the applicant.  Successful applicants will be asked to provide a current (no older than 30 days) copy of his/her Motor Vehicle Record.
    • Able to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs.  Employees are regularly required to sit, stand, walk, see, talk, and hear.  Frequently they will need to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 
    • Employees must be able to work in harsh weather conditions for long hours on a variable schedule.

This person must be proactive and personable with guest. Able to provide information on various tours and transportation throughout the day.     Server Guide

    $12.00 / hour

    Cape Fox Tours is seeking friendly and customer service-oriented Servers to help with different tours throughout the summer. Servers will be responsible for providing an enjoyable experience for the guests while providing a tour narration during the service. They engage in friendly conversation with their tables to make them feel comfortable and provide a hospitable environment, delivering food and beverages throughout the tour at appropriate times and maintaining cleanliness throughout the work environment.

     

    Duties Include

    • Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages 
    • Serve food or beverages to patrons and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required using a serving tray and tray stand 
    • Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters and take them to the kitchen for cleaning 
    • Answer any questions regarding the meal portion of the tour
    • Clean tables and other surfaces after patrons have left and reset them for the next tour
    • Be able to pour both Beer and Wine and deliver them to patrons in a timely manner
    • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware 
    • Perform food preparation duties such as preparing plates for guests in advance with the chef.
    • Clean and maintain areas and items in the restaurant, bar, and tables
    • Perform additional duties as assigned 

    Requirements: 

    • Customer-oriented, friendly, and energetic 
    • Ability to work under pressure and multi-task 
    • Food Handlers Certification  
    • TAPS Certification 
    • Must be legally able to serve alcohol 
    • High school diploma or equivalent 
    • Prior work experience is a plus

    Cape Fox Tours is seeking talented Native Artist for the upcoming 2023 Cruise Season. Applicants must be Native Alaskan and have residency in the State of Alaska. The Native Artists will work on various projects throughout the summer based on ability and talent. We are looking for artist who are well submerged in the Native Arts and willing to share their knowledge and talent with others. The artist will need to be able to adapt to various tour schedules throughout the season and engage in guests’ communication.

    Tlingit Native Dancer (Adult)

    Cape Fox Tours is seeking energetic and reliable adults to perform as Alaska Native Dancers in the Saxman Native Village Tribal House. The Adult Dancers will perform a variety of cultural songs and dances in front of visitors traveling to Saxman via cruise ships and other methods of transportation. They will wear traditional regalia and can invite guests up on the stage to dance at the end of the performance. Practices will be held regularly to learn the list of songs and dances, along with ensuring that the group of Alaska Native Dancers is prepared for all performances. 

    The Adult Dancers should have knowledge of commonly used Cape Fox company concepts, practices, and procedures within the organization. The Adult Dancer will also rely on instructions and pre-established, commonly known guidelines provided to perform the functions of the position. These and other duties may be required at the direction of the General Manager. Long hours and weekends may be required pending tour schedules. 

    Duties Include: 

    • Provide personable and friendly interaction with tour guests 

    • Exhibit willingness to learn songs and dances  

    • Perform in a professional manner to represent the culture and Company successfully 

    • Wear full regalia consisting of a blanket, apron/skirt, headband/hat, moccasins and solid red or solid back shirt while performing 

    • Perform up to six performances in one day with adequate breaks in between 

    • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to accommodate a variable work schedule 

    • Perform other related duties as assigned 

    Requirements: 

    • Previous experience as a cultural dancer or in tourism is preferred 

    • Attend practices and meetings to prepare for performances 

    • Knowledge of Company Policies and Procedures 

    • Ability to problem solve with employees and guests in a professional manner 

    • Wear proper attire during performances as specified above  

    • Must have adequate knowledge of local environment and Cultural history, practices, and lifestyle of today 

    • Physical stamina to perform up to six performances in one day with adequate breaks in between 

    • Must be able to lift 25 pounds

    Tlingit Native Dancer (Child)

    Cape Fox Tours is seeking to hire friendly and outgoing children to perform as Alaska Native Dancers in the Saxman Native Village Tribal House. Applicants must be Native Alaskan and have residency in the State of Alaska. We are proud to share our culture, history, and family with the guests that visit Saxman while on their tour. These guests arrive by cruise ships, airlines, and Alaska ferries. This is the perfect opportunity to gain some work experience in tourism and learn valuable attributes as an employee.

    The Child Dancers will greet guests as they enter the Tribal House, and assist them, if needed, to their seats. The performance will start off with the Adult Dancers performing the songs and dances for the guests in the traditional regalia. The Child Dancer will rely on instructions and pre-established, commonly known guidelines provided to perform the functions of the position. This and other duties may be required at the direction of the General Manager. Long hours and weekends may be required pending tour schedule within the guidelines set forth by the State of Alaska.

    • Provide personable and friendly interaction with tour guests
    • Greeting guests and assisting them with seating arrangements
    • Exhibit willingness to perform songs and dances by following the lead of Adult Dancers
