Camp Susan Curtis is an award-winning camp experience for Maine children facing economic hardship celebrating its 50th SUMMER. Fully supported by generous donors, campers entering 5-12th grade attend 10 day sessions and participate in social, recreational, and learning opportunities in a culture of joy and acceptance. We have been building mental, emotional, social, and physical health since 1974

Located in a pristine, lake-front location in the beautiful foothills of the White Mountains in Western Maine (Town of Stoneham).

Room and Board

Room and board are provided to all Camp Leaders and an optional perk for our Food Service staff members. Cabins are shared living spaces with plumbing and electricity included. In addition to housing, expect three nutritious meals a day!

Getting Here and Getting Around

Access to a personal vehicle is a plus, but there are plenty of other options to help you get to Camp! Generous travel stipends (up to $500) can be negotiated for those traveling from afar. We are located an hour and 15 minutes from the Portland International Airport and can help arrange for transportation to and from the airport with advanced notice.

Our location is perfect for anyone interested in spending time outdoors! Our camp sits in the foothills of the White Mountains and offers easy access to some of the best hiking in New England. There are plenty of other day trip options to take advantage of during your ample time off in between sessions- raft/float down the Saco River, eat some great food in Portland, ME just an hour away, or explore the countless other lakes in the area.

    Camp Leader

    $2,600.00 - $3,200.00 / season

    As a Camp Leader, you will:

    • Build Your Resume with essential skills in communication, collaboration, problem solving, and creativity. Customized internships, practicums, and independent studies available.  
    • Spend Your Summer with other compassionate, motivated, fun high school graduates in a pristine lakefront location.  
    • Lead Daily Activities that strengthen mental, emotional, and social health of campers 8-17 through experiential learning, character development, and relationship building

    More Details:

    Flexible schedule: Choose 2, 3, or 4 ten-day sessions. Sessions run from June 23 through August 14. All staff must be available June 13 - June 20 for staff training.

    Accommodations: Live in a camper cabin with plumbing, electricity, and nutritious meals

    Wages: Base salaries start at $2600/season, but can increase based on experience/education/skillset. This position is also eligible for the contract completion bonus for those choosing to work 3+ sessions.

    Wellness Coordinator

    $500.00 - $700.00 / week

    Create a culture of joy and acceptance by building relationships and programs that strengthen and support the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of campers and staff.

    Basic Qualifications

    • At least 21 years of age and current licensure in Maine as a Registered Nurse or accepted equivalent. (*See below list of accepted equivalent qualifications)
    • Able to live and work in a fast-paced environment with limited privacy, personal space, or down time.
    • Able to build compassionate relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds and personalities.
    • Able to recognize emotional stressors and implement self-care strategies appropriate for the setting.
    • Able to adhere to policies that may be limiting and not necessarily reflect your personal belief system.
    • Committed and able to serve as a contributing staff team member with the physical, mental, emotional, social, and cognitive abilities required for the rigors of the position.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Mission & Values Advancement:  Work in harmony and cooperation with the camp community, integrating the mission, goals, and values into camp culture.  Ensure physical, mental, emotional, social health and safety of all campers and staff through best practices and compassionate relationships.

    Trauma Informed Care:  Follow and maintain limits for campers and staff using the CSC collaborative behavior management model emphasizing character development and strengths-based assets.

    Camp Leadership:  Provide supervised health care to campers and staff. Implement standing orders, dispensing of medication, cleanliness of Health Center, maintenance of First Aid Kits, and basic health care under the supervision of the Wellness Director.

    Licensing & Accreditation:  Enforce and uphold all emergency, safety, and security guidelines, standards, best practices, and procedures as recommended or required by the American Camp Association, Alliance For Camp Health, and Maine DHHS.  Maintain a healthy and safe environment through the attention to and care of the facilities, grounds, equipment, and supplies.

    Participation & Representation: Follow all guidelines, rules, and policies as outlined through training, modeling, verbalization, and written materials and always represent camp positively.

    Salary

    Earn a minimum of $500/week, dependent on experience

    Food Service Coordinator

    Camp Susan Curtis is seeking a motivated Food Service Coordinator to join our kitchen staff for summer 2024! Previous kitchen/restaurant experience is desired, but willing to train the right person. We offer a fun, friendly work environment, a pristine, waterfront location, and a chance to make an impact by providing a transformative camp experience that nurtures self-confidence and a sense of belonging in Maine children facing economic hardship.

    Pay begins at $20/hour, up to 40 hours/week

    Program Coordinator

    $4,000.00 - $4,200.00 / season

    Program Coordinator - Multiple Positions: The next level of Camp Leadership. As a Program Coordinator, you will provide oversight and focus to specific program areas. Current openings are Creative Arts/Nature, Waterfront/Sports, and Teen Specialty (Art, Sports, Waterfront, Outdoor Pursuits). 

    • Responsible for curriculum delivery and staff supervision. 
    • Work with Camp Leadership Team on providing Camper Wellbeing Support and organizing Camp-wide activities.

    Camp and/or youth development experience is required. Must be available for the full summer.

    Creative Arts Specialist

    $3,300.00 - $3,800.00 / season
    Stoneham

    Lead the delivery of our Creative Arts programs, including: Arts & Crafts, Pottery, Theater & Dance, and more. Help campers develop and grow while exploring their creativity (and your own!). Qualified candidates will have an interest in creating and teaching art, the ability to communicate instructions clearly and patiently, and the capability to keep work stations clean and organized.

    Through this position, you will collaborate with Leadership Team to integrate curriculum, supervise and train staff, and schedule session activities. Live and work with a cabin family.

    *There is some flexibility in scheduling for this position, but preferred applicants will be available for all 4 camp sessions in addition to staff training (9 weeks total)

    Waterfront Specialist

    $3,300.00 - $3,900.00 / season
    Stoneham

    Lead the delivery of waterfront activities including swim lessons, recreational swim, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding, Collaborate with Leadership Team to integrate curriculum, supervise and train staff, and schedule session activities. Live and work with a cabin family.

    Previous lifeguard experience required.

    Current Lifeguarding Certification required, WSI preferred. Lifeguard Certification course offered at beginning of staff training for those in need of re-certification.

    *There is some flexibility in scheduling for this position, but preferred applicants will be available for all 4 camp sessions in addition to staff training (9 weeks total)
