    Yellowstone Park Service Stations (YPSS) offers some of the best summer jobs in Yellowstone National Park. Working as an Accounting Clerk at our main office in scenic Gardiner, Montana at the historic North Entrance to Yellowstone provides you with a truly unique experience. As an Accounting Clerk, you will be under the supervision of and assist the Accountant in performing the general accounting functions of YPSS. You will be responsible for compiling and calculating daily sales data and inventory from our seven service stations and four automotive repair shops in Yellowstone, greeting office visitors, answering telephones, and processing other employees as they arrive. An eager, friendly personality is a must. Many receive their first impression of YPSS from their contact either in person or on the phone with office personnel. We wish to project a warm and friendly but capable image. Applicants must be available for employment from mid May to late September. If hired for this position, you must provide proper documentation establishing your identity and eligibility to be legally employed in the United States and be willing to undergo a background and employment reference check.


    Skills, Abilities, Experience, & Training Required:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • One year of experience beyond the high school level is required.
    • Exceptional customer service skills including the ability to work closely with other people in an office setting and project a professional, positive, and pleasant attitude both on and off duty with the public and team members.
    • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and inventory management techniques.
    • The ability to operate a 10-key adding machine by touch (although this skill may be acquired on the job).
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with the public, office staff, location management, and park staff.
    • Must be flexible and able to work adaptively in varying levels of business, from periods of fast-paced & high-volume phone call and radio traffic to slower times when individual initiative is required to complete mandatory daily bookkeeping and other office tasks.
    • Comfortable operating computer-based systems and applications including Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word, and using accounting software like Quickbooks.
    • Basic math skills are required to accurately audit sales reports.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are expected.
    • Ability and willingness to learn and politely share accurate park information with visitors over the phone.

    Daily Job Activities, Duties, and Responsibilities:

    • Greet and assist walk-in visitors to our office.
    • Welcome and help process new employees as they arrive.
    • Potentially access personnel files for 70 employees which requires a mandatory confidentiality agreement.
    • Audit daily sales reports submitted by location management.
    • Discuss report results with location management.
    • Post data to sales journals.
    • Comply with current federal and state laws regarding compliance and data protection of credit card information.
    • Dispatch wreckers and service trucks via 2-way radio and phone.
    • Participate in audits and inventories of retail facilities.
    • Handle customer and employee accounts receivable.
    • Assist with accounts payable and prepare checks.
    • Assist with payroll preparation.
    • Prepare various sales reports.
    • Perform inventory management.
    • Answer telephones and direct calls appropriately.
    • Share knowledge of Yellowstone with park visitors who call in seeking information.
    • Undertake additional opportunities and duties as assigned.

    Room and Board:

    Office/warehouse employees are housed in conventional apartment units or house trailers in Gardiner, Montana. Bedding, linens, pillows, etc., are furnished by YPSS, but you may also choose to bring your own. Basic household equipment is also furnished - such as pots and pans, kitchen and cutlery implements, dishes, silverware, ironing board (but not irons), mops, brooms and a vacuum cleaner. No electrical appliances are supplied, such as coffee makers, toasters, fry pans, etc. Birds are the only pets permitted in the apartments or house trailers. Rental rate is $12.00 per day. All utilities are furnished, except for telephone service. Cell phone service is available. Contact us to determine if your carrier has coverage. RV sites are available on a limited basis.  Please contact us regarding this option.

    Compensation,Hours, and Dress Code:

    The 2024 wage for Accounting Clerks is $18.20 per hour. Wages will be incrementally higher based on the applicant’s amount of training and practical experience. The YPSS main office is staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., seven days per week. Accounting Clerks work 8 hours per day, five days per week, with one-hour lunch breaks and two consecutive days off. National holidays occurring between May 1 and October 31 are not observed in the YPSS office.

    Our entire operation is quite informal, and this informality extends to the Gardiner office. Employees are expected to be neatly and presentably dressed, but this definitely does not mean business suits or attire. Open neck sports shirts, slacks, summer-type dresses, skirts, and blouses are appropriate for office wear. Blue jeans are permitted, although t-shirts with slogans are not considered appropriate office apparel.

    Warehouse Assistant

    Drive & Deliver While Working in Beautiful Yellowstone National Park!

    Yellowstone Park Service Stations (YPSS) offers some of the best summer jobs in Yellowstone National Park. Working as a Warehouse Assistant at our main office/warehouse in scenic Gardiner, Montana at the historic North Entrance to Yellowstone provides you with a truly unique experience. Under the supervision of a warehouse manager, our Warehouse Assistants are primarily responsible for receiving, pulling, loading, delivering, and unloading retail products to our seven service stations and four automotive repair shops inside Yellowstone. If hired for this position, you must provide proper documentation establishing your identity and eligibility to be legally employed in the United States. YPSS will perform a mandatory motor vehicle license and background check to determine if our insurance carrier will allow you to be added to our policy.


    Skills, Abilities, Experience, & Training Required:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • One year of experience beyond the high school level is required.
    • valid driver's license, issued by any state, is a prerequisite. A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is not required to operate YPSS delivery trucks; however, additional consideration is given to applicants who do have a CDL.
    • Ability to safely operate and drive large box trucks on winding, narrow public roadways in a variety of road and weather conditions.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with park visitors, co-workers, location management, park staff, and main office personnel.
    • Ability to work adaptively in varying levels of business, from periods of fast-paced & high-volume delivery and warehouse traffic to slower times when individual initiative is required to complete mandatory daily cleaning and warehouse management tasks.
    • Comfortable operating computer-based systems and must become proficient in the use of our Back Office inventory management software system after receiving training.
    • Ability to work outdoors for short periods in a wide range of weather conditions.
    • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds or more and to physically stand or drive for periods up to four hours long or more.
    • Ability and willingness to learn and politely share accurate park information with visitors.

    Daily Job Activities, Duties, and Responsibilities:

    • Receive warehouse deliveries from vendors and check in products to verify invoices are correct.
    • Stock delivered products in the appropriate warehouse location and rotate with existing inventory using first-in/first-out.
    • Use our Back Office software to print, adjust, and post to inventory warehouse purchase orders from our park locations.
    • Efficiently and accurately pull warehouse orders and build pallets of retail products while maintaining inventory control and delivery schedules.
    • Communicate with location managers about their orders to ensure accuracy.
    • Operate battery-powered forklift equipment (Walkies, Hysters, etc.) to safely load pallets onto delivery trucks.
    • Make regular, scheduled deliveries to our locations in the park.
    • Operate delivery trucks including large box trucks on single-lane park roadways sometimes through wildlife-caused traffic jams and navigating unpredictable tourist traffic.
    • Drive for many hours on over 300 miles of park roadway to remote locations and back to our main office/warehouse in a single day.
    • Unload deliveries at park locations and assist location staff with storing products as time permits.
    • Interact professionally and positively with location management and park staff.
    • Sweep and clean warehouse and product storage areas as needed.
    • Undertake additional opportunities and duties as assigned.

    Room and Board:

This is a seasonal, full-time position working 40 hours per week. Work weeks consist of 5 days of 8-hour shifts with two consecutive days off. Since our facilities are open seven days per week throughout the season, there is no premium pay for Sunday or holiday work. A person's days off may fall on any two consecutive days of the week.     Do You Have Automotive Skills and Want to Spend the Summer Living and Working in Yellowstone National Park?

    Yellowstone Park Service Stations (YPSS) offers some of the best summer jobs in Yellowstone National Park. Working as an Automotive Technician at one of our four automotive repair shops provides you with a truly unique experience. Under the supervision of a location manager, our Auto Techs perform a wide variety of mechanical and technical repairs on passenger cars, pickup trucks, and motor homes belonging to members of the public. In addition, Technicians are trained in the operation of our service trucks and tow truck units. As an Auto Tech you are on the front line of contact with park visitors, providing exceptional customer service and presenting a positive image of both YPSS and Yellowstone. If hired for this position, you must provide proper documentation establishing your identity and eligibility to be legally employed in the United States. YPSS will perform a mandatory motor vehicle license and background check to determine if our insurance carrier will allow you to be added to our policy.


    Skills, Abilities, Experience, & Training Required:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Successful completion of one (1) year of automotive mechanical training beyond the high school level and/or at least one (1) year working at some level in the automotive mechanical/technical field.
    • valid driver's license, issued by any state, is a prerequisite. A Commercial Drivers License is not required to operate YPSS tow trucks; however, additional consideration is given to applicants who do have a CDL.
    • Ability to drive large trucks on winding, narrow public roadways in a variety of road and weather conditions, including operating vehicles with a manual transmission.
    • Must provide your own hand tools as YPSS supplies minimal hand tools and specialty equipment.
    • The ability to always work with the public with courtesy and tact is nearly as important as the mechanical/technical knowledge and skills involved. YPSS provides a service to customers who are having vehicle concerns; therefore, enthusiastic and helpful customer service is a priority.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with customers, co-workers, location management, and main office personnel.
    • Ability to work adaptively in varying levels of business, from periods of fast-paced & high-volume customer traffic to slower times when individual initiative is required to complete mandatory daily shopkeeping and vehicle maintenance tasks.
    • Comfortable operating computer-based systems including point of sale registers, programs including Microsoft Excel and Word, and using online services to order parts and diagnose vehicles.
    • Basic math skills are required to accurately calculate the labor, service fees, and parts charges on customers’ bills.
    • Ability to work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, sometimes for lengthy periods during vehicle towing and recovery operations.
    • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds or more and to physically stand or drive for periods up to four hours long or more.
    • Ability and willingness to learn and politely share accurate park information with visitors.

    Daily Job Activities, Duties, and Responsibilities:

    • Interact professionally and positively with park visitors from around the world in a busy, sometimes hectic environment, including the ability to patiently communicate through language barriers.
    • Quickly, accurately, and independently diagnose mechanical and technical problems, without internet and with a bare minimum of test equipment during roadside service calls (diagnostic tools are available in the shops).
    • Advise customers of possible solutions to their vehicle’s problems and make necessary repairs or adjustments as requested after determining what repairs are required.
    • Thoroughly, accurately, and legibly fill out and complete service request (work) order forms for each vehicle.
    • Operate tow trucks including towing disabled vehicles of all sizes, performing roadside service, and recovering vehicles from motor vehicle accidents. Operation of rollbacks, wreckers, and service vehicles will occur after proper training. Tow truck operation requires evening "on-call" duty for which the technician will be paid a percentage of revenues generated.
    • Perform sales transactions by cash (including accurate cash handling), credit card, or company charge via point of sale system.
    • Answer telephones and direct calls appropriately.
    • Clean dormitories, sales & service areas, and exterior of work and living areas.
    • Clean, wash, and maintain company service vehicles and tow equipment.
    • Perform daily opening and closing duties including counting cash drawers, recording sales figures, and completing reports, and counting inventories.
    • Share knowledge of Yellowstone's history, policies, and issues with park visitors.
    • Undertake additional opportunities and duties as assigned.

    Room and Board:

    Subsidized housing at our dorms in Yellowstone is only $7.50 per day and includes free laundry facilities, utilities, and WiFi. Most housing is in shared rooms. Limited private rooms and RV sites are available. All work locations are within walking distance from dorm housing. An optional meal plan including three meals per day at the Employee Dining Rooms (EDRs) is available for only $12.20 per day. Contact us for more details.

    Compensation and Hours:

    The 2024 wage for entry-level technicians is $20.00 per hour. Wages will be incrementally higher based on the applicant’s amount of training and practical experience, including consideration of ASE and/or WreckMaster certification(s). The basic work-week at the repair service facilities consists of five eight-hour days. Since our facilities are open seven days per week throughout the season, there is no premium pay for Sunday or holiday work. A person's days off may fall on any two consecutive days of the week. For any hours worked in excess of forty-eight per work-week, overtime is paid at the rate of time-and-a-half. 

    In addition to normal business hours, each Automotive Technician is required to be "on call" several nights each week to provide emergency wrecker and road service during the hours when the repair facility is closed. Employees providing this service are paid a percentage of the revenue generated during this period.
