The Peak Pathfinder AmeriCorps position is a paid service opportunity that provides members with an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth, gain crucial professional skills, earn money for college or to pay student loans and enjoy the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Peak Pathfinders will serve in schools, providing 1 on 1 mentorship to students that are struggling academically, socially, emotionally, or with mental health. The goal of this program is to reduce truancy and affect the graduation rates of the most at-risk students. This program provides housing at no cost, upon completion of the program members qualify for an Education Award ($6895) to pay student loans or for future school.
YouthPower365 has been working closely with the School District for the past 20 years to identify and address achievement and equity gaps to support students. They are currently looking for their fourth class of Peak Pathfinder AmeriCorps members, an exciting new program that provides wrap-around support to students and families. The fourth class of the Peak Pathfinder AmeriCorps program begins August 12th, 2024, and finishes on July 25th, 2025. During their term members are provided with housing at no cost, a living stipend, health insurance, many opportunities to gain professional skills, an opportunity to be on a team of like-minded peers, and an Education Award upon successful completion of the program.
The Eagle River Valley hosts a vibrant and international community. With 52% of students identifying as LatinX, Spanish is widely spoken by teachers and students. World-class ski resort Vail also attracts tourists and employees from all over the world. Members will have many opportunities to engage with many community partners and learn more about the history and culture of this amazing location.
Nonetheless, the students YouthPower365 and Eagle County Schools serve have never needed our support more. Student mental health and engagement have been gravely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Chronic truancy and absenteeism have become a real challenge for schools. Data reported from the Healthy Kids Colorado survey indicates that bullying, mental health struggles, and lack of motivation are more prevalent than ever including over 20% of Middle School students who have experienced a desire to kill themselves. The goal of the Peak Pathfinder program is to engage with youth that are struggling and provide a trusted adult relationship that inspires, encourages, and empowers them.
AmeriCorps Members serving in this program will be in schools supporting students four days a week, where they will provide crucial interventions and support to students. The fifth day of the week is dedicated to developing the Members professionally. Members will have options to enroll in college credited courses pertaining to education, receive multiple trainings on positive youth development, trauma informed care, youth mental health and wellbeing, as well as spend time team building, personal professional development, and working toward career goals.
