    Overview

    The Overnight On-Site Director (SD) for Surf Camp, Inc. must be a multi-talented, service-oriented individual with a strong desire to provide a safe, fun, and enriching summer camp experience for staff and campers in an overnight camp setting. Our programs attract teens from all over the world who have the desire to learn how to surf, learn about marine biology, and experience the local culture and wildlife unique to North Carolina. Applicants must be passionate about marine stewardship, teaching, inspiring youth, and surfing. This position requires the candidate to work as part of a team to inspire, instruct, and provide care to several teams and groups of campers.

    The SD will be responsible for the daily running of our Campus Facility, planning and facilitation of various evening activities, running the camp store, overseeing the kitchen, and logistical support. Logistics are a key element of our overnight programs and include equipment management and maintenance, evening program set-up and break-down, and other duties as assigned. This position will also assist with the coordination of the arrival and departure of campers. Last but not least, the SD must ensure that all staff and campers stay safe while having an awesome and life-enriching experience. This position reports to the Operations Director.

    Skills and Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Completed Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Education, Administration, or applicable field
    2. At least one (1) year of camp administration experience
    3. At least three (3) years of in-field camp experience (i.e. counselor, instructor, unit leader)
    4. Experience managing multiple teams, their schedules, and their budgets
    5. Ability to plan, originate, organize, and carry out daily and special programs
    6. Ability to organize and manage the camp store and inventory
    7. Ability to remain focused in a fast-paced, stressful, and fluid camp atmosphere
    8. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    9. Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard, first aid/CPR, or willing/able to get
    10. At least 25 years of age
    11. Strong communication, decision-making, logistical, and organizational skills
    12. Must be in excellent physical condition
    13. Ability to pass a 500-yard open-ocean swim test
    14. Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted
    15. No conflicting summer commitments including travel, work, or other leave of absence
    16. Proven ability to effectively manage staff

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    Activities primarily take place in North Topsail Beach at our Campus Facility with occasional office work in the Main Office in Wilmington, NC.

    This seasonal position requires that individuals maintain a strong skill set in the following areas: organization, punctuality, and problem-solving, as well as having a solid attention to detail. These skills are crucial for you to provide the best possible experience for staff and campers. Programs do require work on weekends and holidays, though there is some time off between camps and/or during the week.

    The following skills are crucial: goal setting, prioritization, strategy development, adherence to policies and procedures, and time management. It is of utmost importance to be proactive and forward-thinking.

    Staff responsibilities are listed below, but may not be limited to this list:

    1. Maintain the highest level of risk management, responsibility, and sound judgment at all times
    2. Provide consistent support to the field staff and kitchen staff, by handling tasks and duties, delegating duties to staff, and focusing on campers’ safety and schedule
    3. Responsible for the implementation of program curriculum and consistent day-to-day activities
    4. Responsible for assisting in managing the schedules for all overnight programs at the facility 
    5. Create meal schedules and cleaning schedules for all units residing at the camp
    6. Supervise and manage the seasonal administrative staff and seasonal kitchen staff
    7. Attend all scheduled meetings with the Program Directors
    8. Perform all pre-session tasks, including but not limited to arriving at the camp location before the start date, reviewing camp binders, preparing for camper arrival, delegating responsibilities, and ensuring all supplies are prepared and accessible
    9. Responsible for helping with water activities as needed
    10. Facilitate camper check-in and check-out; coordinating picking up campers from the airport on the first day and on the last day, with supervision at the airport until the last camper flight departs
    11. Organize and help prep facilities at the end of each camp session
    12. Complete all post-session tasks; including but not limited to completing the binder checklist, clean-up, program and staff evaluations, and inventory of supplies
    13. Conduct weekly team meetings to go over any camper issues, logistics, and schedule
    14. Make quick decisions throughout the day based on weather and wave conditions
    15. Practice open communication with your teams; address any issues immediately
    16. Mentor staff and provide feedback and corrective action when necessary
    17. Assist with daily camp setup and breakdown with seasonal administrative team when needed
    18. Ensure that budgets are met and cost efficiencies are improved
    19. Organize, develop, and implement program curriculum
    20. Prepare and lead hands-on, educational, teambuilding activities for campers and staff
    21. Supervise and actively participate in camp activities
    22. Stand in for staff members as needed
    23. Put camper needs before own; get to know each camper, make them feel welcome and accepted
    24. Provide proper behavior management of campers; handle camper discipline issues and emergencies that may arise
    25. Serve as a positive role model, display maturity, responsibility, flexibility, and sound judgment
    26. Oversee participants' safety, medication administration, and dietary preferences
    27. Safely transport students and/or staff in 15-passenger vans
    28. Communicate with parents as needed during the camp session; answer questions and calmly address any issues that may arise
    29. Carry and respond to the director’s company cell phone 24/7, delegating coverage when off
    30. Coach and mentor all staff, particularly unit leaders, in camper/staff management
    31. Follow proper Emergency Procedures when necessary
    32. Clearly understand company goals, high safety standards, and mission; continuously work to professionally promote the organization’s mission and achieve its goals
    33. Be knowledgeable of Surf Camp, Inc. as a company, as well as our diversity of programs

    Compensation

    We offer above-average industry-standard compensation commensurate with experience, and the inclusion of pro-deal opportunities. In addition, the compensation package will include ocean-view accommodations and meals during the summer program, valued at an additional $5,000.

    Position Duration

    Programs run from June 2- August 2 on Topsail Island, NC. All staff need to attend mandatory staff training beginning May 24 – May 31. Candidates would start at the beginning of May to prepare and assist in leading the mandatory staff training at the end of May. This position ends on August 3.

    Overview

    Located in the beautiful coastal city of Wilmington, NC, WB Surf Camp is seeking a passionate, quality-oriented, self-driven candidate dedicated to working in a fast-paced summer camp environment. Under the leadership of the Operations Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, preparation, and implementation of various WB Surf Camp programs, including North Carolina Teen Overnight Surf Camp, North Carolina Advanced Teen Overnight Surf Camp, Carolina Ocean Odyssey, and North Carolina Spring Break Surf Camps. This position reports to the Operations Director.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. At least 25 years of age preferred.
    2. Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas preferred: Environmental Science/Marine Science/Hospitality Services/Parks & Recreation/Business Management.
    3. Minimum 3 years of experience working in residential overnight programming.
    4. Comfortable with a demanding schedule during the summer with no scheduled vacations
    5. Strong verbal and written communication skills, sound fiscal management practices, excellent organizational abilities, and problem-solving strategies
    6. Experience creating and implementing new curriculum.
    7. Demonstrated leadership through experiences in supervision, community collaboration, and innovation.
    8. Ability to take initiative on program improvements in the off-season.
    9. Ability to adequately observe program activities and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
    10. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
    11. Experience with in-field instruction with the following topics: marine science, coastal ecology, and environmental science

    Principal Responsibilities  

    Summer Principal Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    1. Coordinate all logistics for North Carolina Overnight Camps, including transportation, lodging, activities, equipment, and community service.
    2. Hire and train North Carolina Residential Surf Camp staff.
    3. Manage the in-field NC residential WB Surf Camp seasonal staff.
        • Facilitate weekly check-in and check-out meetings with in-field teams.
        • Ensure that all seasonal camp staff receive ongoing support for any logistical needs.
        • Fill in when necessary.
    4. Assist in the hiring of other department staff as needed.
    5. Maintain an open line of communication with WB Surf Camp partners/vendors.
    6. Manage data, including itineraries, schedules, room rosters, and Unit Leader Binders for all camps
    7. Build and prepare all Unit Leader Binders and supplemental activities.
    8. Oversee preparation and implementation of all materials and supplies needed, including all equipment and merchandise.
    9. Ensure all seasonal staff receive ongoing support.
    10. Evaluate seasonal staff halfway through the summer season and at the end of the season. Provide them with written and verbal feedback.
    11. Effectively communicate with parents and participants regarding scheduling, expectations, and requirements of a program promptly.
    12. Ensure that accurate registration, attendance, and participation records are maintained.
    13. Manage WB Surf Camp equipment inventory.
    14. Ensure ongoing support for all Surf Camp Inc. residential programs.
    15. Coordinate on-site activities and team-building exercises with the Program Director and Site Director for staff to utilize during residential camps, ensuring the seasonal staff is implementing them.
    16. Assist with general office duties for all Surf Camp Inc. programs, such as answering phones, talking with parents about program details, taking reservations.
    17. Maintain on-call duties as assigned.
    18. Ability to take over any position on the residential field staff team, if necessary
    19. Provide leadership and support to other coordinators.

    Year-Round Principal Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    For the remaining nine months of the year, this position is responsible for preparing for the next season of camps. This includes marketing to prospective clients, coordinating camp logistics, new program development, and updating and creating new marketing materials, among other tasks.

    1. Coordinate all logistics for all NC residential Sea Turtle Camp programs, including lodging, transportation, meals, activities, and community service.
    2. Maintain an open line of communication with WB Surf Camp partners.
    3. Create and engage opportunities for company growth.
    4. Develop relationships with staff, campers, and clients including previous and prospective clients.
    5. Develop team-building activities and games to be incorporated during time spent at our residential campus to be used by all Surf Camp Inc. programs.
    6. Prepare detailed itineraries for all overnight programs.
    7. Coordinate and lead camp and hiring fairs during the off-season.
    8. Maintain accurate and timely registration, enrollment, attendance, and participation records.
    9. Ensures high-quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations, ongoing training, and professional development.
    10. Oversee & help with the preparation of all materials and supplies needed for all camps including sampling gear, rashguards, t-shirts, medical supplies, etc.
    11. Manage all storage and organization of inventory.
    12. Developing new program activities for already existing programs
    13. Updating the current curriculum and developing a new curriculum
    14. Researching new program markets
    15. Developing and assisting in marketing new programs (summer and off-season)
    16. Create and update marketing materials, including brochures and emails with the Program Director
    17. Maintain social media posts if necessary.
    18. Sell Surf Camp Inc. programs over the phone to prospective families.
    19. Manage the WB Surf Camp database on Campsite.
    20. Provide information to the Media Coordinator for marketing posts.
    21. Assist in the hiring process and supervision of seasonal field staff including interviewing, training, and management of multiple teams.
    22. Assist in developing an intensive staff training program.
    23. Assist with general office duties for all Surf Camp Inc. programs, such as answering phones, talking with parents about program details, enrolling campers.

    Compensation

    We offer above-average industry-standard compensation commensurate with experience, and the inclusion of 2 weeks of PTO to start with additional PTO will be given as compensatory time, $225/month health insurance, 6 paid holidays, monetary bonuses, and pro-deal opportunities.     Kitchen Staff

    $5,000.00 / season
    SurfCamp, Sea Turtle Camp

    The Cook position must be a multi-talented individual with a strong desire to assist in the overall
    food-service operation including preparation, meal service, and sanitation. Applicant must provide
    nutritious, well-prepared meals and snacks for all campers, staff, and guests both on-site and for
    packed lunches. Applicants should have a passion for conservation and enjoy working with teens.
    The applicant is responsible for ensuring students have a safe, healthy, and filling dining experience.

    Skills & Qualifications

    ❖ At least 19 years of age
    ❖ Knowledge of and experience in food service
    ❖ Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, storage of food, and kitchen procedures
    ❖ Willing to work long hours while maintaining energy and stamina
    ❖ Strong communication, decision-making, logistical, and organizational skills
    ❖ Enjoy working with campers in a residential camp setting

    Principal Responsibilities

    During the summer months, we operate overnight marine biology and surf camps for teenagers
    varying in length from 6 days up to 2 weeks. Additional staff members will assist you in the
    preparation of and serving of all camp meals and snacks to approximately 100 people per meal.
    Individuals must maintain a strong skill set in the following areas: sanitation and food preparation, as
    well as have solid attention to detail. These skills are crucial in order for you to provide the best
    possible experience for each camper. Programs do require work on weekends and holidays, though
    there is some time off between camps to recharge.

    Surf Camp, Inc. staff responsibilities are listed below but may not be limited to this list.

    • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the camp’s food service
    • Prepare nutritionally balanced meals, snacks, and pack-out foods
    • Prepare and serve meals and snacks in a safe, efficient, and timely manner
    • Prepare and cook food as the menu indicates; utilizing boiling, broiling, steaming or roasting of meat, poultry, vegetables, salads, soups, and gravies
    • Prepare food: including, washing, peeling, and chopping
    • Bake bread, muffins, and dessert items
    • Ability to maintain proper food temperatures and assess the condition of food
    • Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution
    • Assist with inventory management
    • Effectively manage inventory of food supply and kitchen equipment
    • Report any needed repairs to equipment in a timely manner
    • Communicate changes in inventory to Food Service Manager
    • Maintain routine sanitation and upkeep of the kitchen, equipment, and facilities

    Carolina Ocean Odyssey

    Carolina Ocean Odyssey Unit Leader

    $5,000.00 / season
    SurfCamp, Sea Turtle Camp

    The Unit Leader for our overnight Carolina Ocean Odyssey program must be a multi-talented, service oriented individual with a strong desire to provide a life changing ocean experience that encompasses ocean safety and marine science. Applicant must have a passion for ocean conservation, teaching, and inspiring youth. This position requires the candidate to work as part of a team to instruct and provide care to a group of 16 campers, ages 10-12. Summer duties will be based at our ocean-view facility on Topsail Island, 30 minutes north of Wilmington. Candidates will work closely with our entire leadership team.

    The Unit Leader will be responsible for supervising the implementation of all daily activities and will perform a variety of administrative duties. This role requires a detail-oriented team player with the ability to see multiple concurrent tasks through to completion. The Unit Leader must provide leadership, guidance, and feedback to all team members, as well as encourage, inspire, and teach both campers and staff. The Unit Leader must ensure all staff and campers stay safe while having an awesome and life-enriching experience. This position reports to the Site Director and Program Coordinator.

    Skills & Requirements

    1. BA or BS in marine biology, environmental science, education, recreation, or related field (or currently pursuing)
    2. At least 23 years of age
    3. Must be in excellent physical condition + able to lift 50 lbs unassisted

These skills are crucial in order for you to provide the best possible experience for each camper. Programs do require work on weekends and holidays, though there is some time off between camps to recharge.

    Staff responsibilities are listed below but may not be limited to this list:

    1. Provide consistent support to leadership staff by handling tasks and duties, aiding in delegating duties to staff, and focusing on campers’ safety and schedule

    The Marine Educator for our overnight Carolina Ocean Odyssey program must be a multi-talented,
    service-oriented individual with a strong desire to provide a life-changing ocean experience that
    encompasses ocean safety and marine science. Applicant must have a passion for ocean conservation, marine science, teaching, and inspiring youth. This position requires the candidate to work as part of a team to instruct and provide care to a group of 16 campers, ages 10-12. Summer duties will be based at our ocean-view facility on Topsail Island, 30 minutes north of Wilmington. Candidates will work closely with our entire leadership team.

    Marine Educator’s will be responsible for daily marine science and water instruction, facilitation of a
    variety of evening programs, logistical support, and daily van driving responsibilities. Logistics are a

    program set-up and break-down, and other duties as assigned. This position will also assist with
    the coordination of the arrival and departure of campers. Last but not least, the Marine Educator must ensure that all staff and campers stay safe while having an awesome and life-enriching experience. This position reports to the Unit Leader.

    Teen Camp Unit Leader

    $5,000.00 / season
    SurfCamp, Sea Turtle Camp

    The Unit Leader for WB Surf Camp must be a multi-talented, service-oriented individual with a strong
    desire to provide campers with an ocean experience that encompasses surfing, ocean safety, and
    marine science learning. Applicant must have a passion for ocean conservation and teaching the
    surfing lifestyle while inspiring youth. This position requires the candidate to work as part of a team to
    instruct and provide care to a group of 18 campers. Unit Leader summer duties will be focused on our flagship program, Teen Overnight Camp, housed at our ocean-view facility on Topsail Island, 30
    minutes north of Wilmington, NC. Surf instruction experience is not necessary. Candidates will go
    through our surf instructor training and certification program at no cost.

    The Unit Leader will be responsible for supervising the implementation of all daily activities for our
    Teen Overnight program and will perform a variety of administrative duties. This role requires a detail-oriented team player with the ability to see multiple concurrent tasks through to completion. The Unit Leaders must provide leadership, guidance, and feedback to all team members, as well as encourage, inspire, and teach both campers and staff. Last but not least, the Unit Leader must ensure all staff and campers stay safe while having an awesome and life-enriching experience. This position works closely with the leadership team and reports to the Site Director and Operations Director.

    Skills and Requirements

    • BA or BS in marine biology, environmental science, education, recreation

    • Provide consistent support to your leadership staff by handling tasks and duties, aiding in

    Teen Surf Counselor/Instructor

    SurfCamp, Sea Turtle Camp

    Surf Camp Counselors for our overnight programs must be multi-talented, service oriented individuals with a strong desire to provide a life changing ocean experience that encompasses wave riding instruction, ocean safety and marine science. Applicants must have a passion for coastal conservation, teaching, and inspiring youth. This position requires the candidate to work as part of a team to inspire, instruct, and provide care to our campers. No surf instruction experience is required for this position as all selected candidates will go through our comprehensive, in-house training, but you must be a proficient surfer. Candidates will work closely with our leadership team.

    Surf Camp Counselors will be responsible for daily surfing or boogie boarding instruction, facilitation of a variety of evening activities, logistical support and daily van driving responsibilities. Logistics are a key element of our overnight camps and include equipment management and maintenance, evening program set-up and break-down, and other duties as assigned. This position will also assist with coordination of arrival and departure of campers. Last but not least, Surf Camp Counselors must ensure that all staff and campers stay safe while having an awesome and life-enriching experience. This position reports to the program’s Unit Leader.

    ocean conservation, teaching, and inspiring staff and campers. Position will be based at our ocean-
    view facility on Topsail Island, approximately 45 minutes north of Wilmington. Will work closely with
    the On-Site Director and Operations Director, Residential Program Directors, and the entire WB Surf
    Camp & Sea Turtle Camp residential team. This position reports directly to the On-Site Director.

    The Assistant On-Site Director will be responsible for supervising the implementation of daily camp
    activities for all our residential camp programs and will perform a variety of administrative duties.
    This role requires a detail-oriented team player with the ability to see multiple concurrent tasks
    through to completion; including, providing logistics and support, coordinating arrival and departure
    of campers, planning and leading evening activities, serving as a substitute counselor, and van
    driving responsibilities. The Assistant On-Site Director must provide leadership, guidance, and
    feedback to all team members, as well as encourage, inspire, and teach both campers and staff. Last
    but not least, the Assistant On-Site Director must ensure all staff and campers stay safe while having
    an awesome and life enriching experience.


    Responsibilities and Duties

    Site Director. The Assistant On-Site Director may be required to live in camper housing and supervise
    campers overnight on an as needed basis. Individual must maintain a strong skill set in the following areas: organization, punctuality, problem solving, taking initiative, as well as have a solid attention to detail. These skills are crucial in order for you to provide the best possible experience for each camper. This position will be required work on weekends and holidays, though there is some time off during the week to recharge. Staff responsibilities are listed below but may not be limited to this list:

    • Support all on-site staff, including, unit leaders, counselors, instructors, and kitchen staff
    • Help manage the implementation of day-to-day activities, meals, and transportation
    • Assist On-Site Director with administrative tasks
    • Help conduct regular drills of emergency procedures, including, fire drill and lost camper drill
    • Assist in leading staff in-service trainings throughout the summer season

    Support Staff are the behind the scenes magic-makers of camp - creativity required! Assist any and all units and instructors as needed by substitute teaching, driving, setting up activities, repairing gear, and a million other things.

    Overview

    Residential Support Staff Counselors for Surf Camp Inc’s residential programs (WB Surf Camp, Sea
    Turtle Camp, and Carolina Ocean Odyssey) must be multi-talented, service-oriented individuals with a strong desire to support our surf and marine science-based teams, support campers (ages 9-18), and assist wherever needed. Our programs attract participants from all over the world that have the desire to learn how to surf, explore marine science, scuba dive, and engage in ocean adventure activities. Applicants must have a passion for marine stewardship, teaching, and inspiring youth. This position requires candidates to work as part of a team to instruct and provide a safe learning environment to every group of participants.

    Residential Support Staff Counselors will be responsible for completing a daily task list, assisting the Site Director whenever needed, logistical support with residential teams, program equipment management, the camp store, and any other duties assigned. Most importantly, Residential Support Staff Counselors must ensure that all staff and participants stay safe while having an awesome and life-enriching experience. No surf instruction experience is required for this position. Residential support staff counselors must be lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certified. This position reports to the Residential Site Director.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    Working in collaboration with other staff members, you will assist the Site Director and residential field teams however possible; provide supervision and instruction for participants in the field as needed, fill in for field team staff as needed, and complete daily task lists. This position will head the camp store and everything that entails, including managing inventory, sales, and our POS system. This individual must maintain a strong skill set in the following areas: Professionalism, organization, punctuality, problem solving, as well as have a solid attention to detail. These skills are crucial in order for you to provide the best possible experience for each participant. Programs require work on some weekends and holidays.

    This is for a 7-week program in Costa Rica.

    Travel Camp Counselors must be multi-talented, service-oriented individuals with a strong desire to provide surf and ocean safety instruction to campers. Our program attracts teens from all over the world who have the desire to learn how to surf and experience the local culture unique to Costa Rica. Applicants must have a passion for marine stewardship, teaching, inspiring youth, and surfing. This position requires candidates to work as part of a team to inspire, instruct, and provide care to a group of travel campers. Surf instruction experience is not necessary, however, applicants should have at least 5 years of surfing experience. Candidates will go through our surf instructor training and certification program at no cost.

    Travel Camp Counselors will be responsible for daily surfing instruction, facilitation of a variety of evening activities, logistical support, and daily van driving responsibilities.
