About Silver City Mountain Resort

Silver City Mountain Resort (SCMR) is located deep in rural Sequoia National Park and just four miles from the breathtakingly beautiful sub-alpine Mineral King Valley. A truly remarkable place!

This is where Walt Disney once had dreams of building a world-class ski resort, SCMR remains one of the best-kept secrets of the serious outdoorsman. While the Disney plans never came to fruition because of the cost of rebuilding Mineral King Road, locals and tourists alike continue to adventure up the windy, mountain road to see why these mountains are so special.

Due to the inaccessibility of Silver City and Mineral King, the mountain has remained largely untouched. It is truly the best-kept secret of Sequoia National Park, and a destination for those who love the wild of the Sierra Nevada. With arguably the best hiking trails in the country, in just a few hours one can be out in the back-country surrounded by nothing but rugged beauty and solitude!

The most unique part of SCMR is the fact that it is privately owned and operated, even though it is surrounded by National Park Service land. As an island within the Park, our small family-like operation values teamwork, communication, adventure, and enjoyment of the outdoors!

As Silver City is home to a multi-generational seasonal cabin community, the "small town" life becomes the norm of all who live on the mountain. The resort remains central to this close-knit community, cultivating the unique experience of all who venture up- It really doesn't get much better than this!

Hospitality at SCMR began in 1929. A few cabins were rented on the property for a few bucks each, and some of our cabins remain original to the history of the area. However, SCMR has grown and now includes a restaurant, gift shop, and luxury lodging. Silver City is remote, off the grid, and has no cell phone reception- ideal for disconnecting and getting in touch with what really matters. An hour and thirty minutes down the mountain, the small town of Three Rivers happens to be the closest store and coffee shop, making SCMR the hub for backpackers, cabin owners, day hikers, and guests alike. Located at 7,000 feet elevation, and surrounded by majestic sugar pines, cedars, and douglas firs, SCMR is truly a magical mountain escape we are proud to share!

Our Culture: SCMR staff embraces self-reliance, a sense of adventure, and common love for the outdoors. SCMR staff exudes the good old-fashioned pioneering spirit, and we encourage dialogue and creativity with the crew. Challenges are welcomed and expected, and teamwork is essential to overcoming whatever might come our way- SCMR does not operate without each team member coming together to problem solve and make it happen. We cannot have any "lone wolves" as part of our team, or business simply will not work.

We pride ourselves on being the "friendliest staff" in the Sequoias, and expect each staff member to keep this as a top priority. Our efforts to be the best crew in the Sierra, and have the most fun doing it, defines how we structure the team. SCMR looks for for hardworking, flexible, outdoor-loving individuals who know how to make magic happen as part of a team! If you think this is you, please do not hesitate to apply.

The Employee Experience

We value the ideals of a small business, and strive to create a staff that becomes more like family to each other. Not only does this help the day-to-day running of our business, but it helps make the experience worth while. Because our staff lives on property in separate female and male dorms, it is essential that they can get along with a wide variety of individuals.

Our staff consists of ten to thirteen employees in total, which makes for a very intimate, family-like work environment! Expect to make lasting friendships, conquer many literal and metaphorical mountains, and learn what it's like to live in a small community off the grid. We value friendships, team collaboration, innovation, having fun, and good old-fashioned hard work. We are a "boots on, ready for anything" type of business, and our staff reflects this in every way.

Silver City Mountain Resort admires and respects the pioneers and miners who originally founded Silver City, true mountain men and women of old. These men and women endured great hardships and used creativity, tenacity, and a can-do mountain spirit to conquer obstacles and thrive in such a wildly unpredictable place. These values are exactly what we encourage and develop among our staff.

We value blending our heritage with new innovation, and have made a few upgrades recently. These include: our new state-of-the-art kitchen, remodeled store and restaurant, remodeled staff housing, and more! Our new kitchen is much larger, more efficient and organized than ever before. Because of this, we are always creating and striving to keep things exciting and fresh, and we hope to serve a more decadent menu than every before!

The updated store and restaurant area look absolutely beautiful with the blue pine walls. With more space than we've ever had, we will be adding more merchandise to the store, and more seating to the restaurant. Silver City Mountain Resort is now officially a "cut above" the rest!

Apply to see what the magic is all about!

Ideal Candidate

An ideal Silver City Mountain Resort employee has the spirit of the mountain! What does this mean? It means they are adventure seekers who loves the outdoors, someone who embraces hard work and challenges, someone who puts the team in front of themselves, and someone who finds solutions rather than problems. Our employees must be mature individuals who know how to live and get-along with a variety of different personalities.

Room and Board

Silver City Mountain Resort does provide room and board, otherwise it would be a really long commute to work! We have newly remodeled staff housing cabins for both men and women with shared rooms and bathrooms. There is also a brand new common area and staff kitchen. The cabins are located on-site, and we challenge you to find a shorter commute to work! Although the management staff has dogs on-site, staff pets will not be allowed. Sorry for the inconvenience, but with the wildlife and being within the Sequoia National Park, it is too much of a liability. Thank you for understanding. Silver City Mountain Resort charges $80/week for room and board.

Employee Perks

The greatest perk we offer is the opportunity to live in the High Sierras, in a unique environment. You can hike all summer and still see only a fraction of what Mineral King has to offer. Hiking, fishing, backpacking, or just lounging by the river are some of the favorite activities of our staff. We like to think the variety of food we offer is expansive and delicious, and we are happy to accommodate different dietary preferences. Employees have access to three common areas: The staff kitchen, the staff deck, and the staff lounge where they can play games and hang-out in their off time. In addition, the WiFi is free to our staff.

Another perk of being in the Sequoias is that it is located in central California, meaning that adventures off the mountain are also easily accessible. San Francisco and Los Angeles are almost equal distance from the, and there are many places to explore in-between!

Getting Here and Getting Around

Getting to Silver City: we are located at Mile 21 Mineral King Road in Sequoia National Park, CA. One can fly into Fresno and take public transportation to Visalia. From there you would need to be picked up to begin your journey up the mountain. There is no public transportation to Silver City. We can gladly pick you up in Visalia and transport you and your luggage up the windy Mineral King road. If you do not bring up a car with you, then you will need to make friends with your teammates and get creative when you seek adventure off the mountain!

For Fun

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, an artist, or just a lover of the rugged beauty of the Sierra, activities abound!

In our opinion Mineral King has the best hiking in Sequoia National Park, if not in all of California. The trail heads are just two to four miles away from the resort. Sawtooth Peak towers at 12,343 feet, or Florence Peak at 12,437 feet, if the challenge of our two highest peaks entices you.

The backpacking and fly fishing are phenomenal. Natural vistas, stunning views, and high peaks can be seen after a short drive to the end of the road. There are also well over twelve different alpine lakes to hike to, and swim in.

If star gazing is your thing, Mineral King Valley offers one of the best locations in the country; the light pollution is non-existent. Watching meteorite showers in Mineral King is a favorite staff activity every year!

If you enjoy climbing mountains, fishing streams, skinning dipping in icy mountain lakes and being awestruck by the enormity of the Milky Way, then you will not be bored here at Silver City Mountain Resort!

What other fun is there to be had? Access to the giant state of California. Because we are located in the center of California, taking part of classic California activities and seeing the sights proves easy. Staff will often make trips to other national parks, the beaches of the San Luis Obispo region, wine country, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and anywhere else in-between! Once down the mountain, Highways 5 and 99 are a very easy jaunt. These will take you to just about anywhere you want to go.

Really, the staff gets to make their own adventures on their days off, and the opportunities are endless.
