Maine Summer Camp - Join our summer 2024 team!
Robin Hood Camp combines 96 years of traditional values with one of the most dynamic programs in camping: Young people, from around the world, have total freedom to choose their schedules, among more than thirty-five sports and activities daily. Staff, also from more than 30 countries, share their exceptional skills while building their skill sets and making life-long bonds with co-workers.
We are located in the beautiful Downeast part of Maine, in Brooksville, one short hour from Acadia National Park, five hours north of Boston.
About Robin Hood Camp
We are the only camp in the U.S. located on a fresh-water lake and the ocean. Our unique vision has been to admit campers from every corner of the world to create a dynamic, diverse world community where American children are introduced to different cultural perspectives and foreign children experience the American sense of fun and openness.
Campers from 25 countries are selected through a rigorous admissions process to ensure they are the right cultural fit for the Robin Hood community. Robin Hood traditions remain strong from our founding year of 1928, such as the camp uniform requirement, the singing of our original camp songs, the Green Scarlet color war, and our Nottingham Fair Day at the end of the season.
At Robin Hood, the spirit of fun, tradition, challenge, and supportiveness leads campers and staff to return year after year.
The Employee Experience
Staff, from more than 30 countries, share their exceptional skills while building their skill sets and making life-long bonds with co-workers. A balance between successful traditions and counselor creativity stimulates a healthy, vibrant community. Expect to get back to nature, make lasting friendships, earn valuable career experience, and—best of all—have lots of fun!
Ideal Candidate
Robin Hood hires approximately 175 staff each summer season, male and female, with an average staff age of 22. We look for coaches, teachers, activity leaders, and support staff who are highly skilled in one or more activities and have the desire to share their skills. Our counselors are self-motivated, committed, and passionate about what they teach and most, importantly, role models to our campers
Room and Board
Housing is bunk-style living with the campers. The bunks have raised, wood floors and screened windows. All bunks have electricity and water. The girls bunks have toilets and the boys bathrooms are steps away from the cabins. Each bunk houses an average of 15 campers and four staff. All meals in comprehensive dining room are included while working at camp.
Employee Perks
Robin Hood is located in beautiful Downeast Maine, with Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor resort town in our backyard. The staff enjoys internet and wifi in our staff lounge as well as access to our fitness center. Staff is offered transportation to local towns and activities on their days off, so there are many opportunities to explore the exceptional local sites.
At camp, you'll have access to the incredible diversity of activities offered by Robin Hood including a vibrant waterfront with waterskiing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing.
In addition, expect to experience the below personal growth opportunities that will last a lifetime, and will apply to future careers, and to most aspects of your life:
- Teamwork building skills: Working together with other staff members is a core feature of life as a camp counselor.
- Leadership development: Camp counselors lead by showing the best side of themselves, and showing a high level of attention to camper safety and feelings
- Management opportunities: Counselors apply their leadership skills to manage their campers in their daily routines and in the cabin.
- Problem solving development: At camp, counselors learn to stay flexible at camp and to be ready with alternative, creative solutions when necessary.
- Listening refinement: Counselors learn to pay attention to campers and then be compassionate, supportive and helpful.
- ...and man more!
Getting Here and Getting Around
Most Robin Hood staffers travel by bus or plane to the city of Bangor, Maine, from where Robin Hood offers direct van transportation to camp. Driving to camp, however, can be the easiest and most enjoyable option. If you have access to a car and are undecided about whether to bring it to camp, our advice is to bring it! There is plenty of parking available, and having a vehicle will provide you with greater freedom during your time off.
On your days off, we provide vans for the shifts to use as a group to explore the local attractions.
For Fun
Downeast Maine offers an abundance of beauty and opportunities to explore in its coastline and inland regions. Explore the resort town of Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island, hike in Acadia National Park, visit charming coastal villages like Stonington, try lobster rolls in Blue Hill... the list of fun things to do in our area of Maine is endless.
