Looking to have fun, find adventure, stay in shape, and make money? Whitewater raft guides are in charge of navigating our guests down the rapids of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers. Our guides strive to create an enjoyable experience while informing guests of the local history and ecology. You will learn valuable skills, make new friends and enjoy free trips!
Raft guides must complete a guide certification course and complete Red Cross Certification of First Aid and CPR prior to hiring. There is a $100 deposit required to begin the 5-days of guide certification. Upon completion of the guide and the First Aid/CPR certifications, you will be hired and the remaining balance of the deposit (after paying for First Aid/CPR) will be returned in the form of a gift certificate to purchase your guide gear. The hiring manager can explain this process in more detail and discuss with you the dates available to obtain it.
Requirements
- Must complete the required trips and training as prescribed by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources.
- Obtain 1st Aid and CPR certifications from the Red Cross.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves guiding a raft for long periods in an outdoor setting. The weather can be hot or cold depending on the season. Guides must be physically able to assist carry a raft up a steep incline. Applicants must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs of equipment.
