The Staff Assistant Experience (SAE) is a residential transition-to-independence program for neurodiverse young adults ages 18-26, presenting with a variety of social and emotional challenges. The SAE Program Supervisor, working under the direct supervision of the Director of Residential Services, works with the direct support staff providing coaching, feedback and support during their workday/evening. This role is critical to ensure that the staff have the tools they need to help the SAE program participants find success in achieving the greatest level of independence possible. This is a full-time, residential position. The schedule would include evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Model successful skill building with participants and direct support staff
- Social Skills: initiate conversations and interactions and help participants to engage in productive interactions with other community members during work experiences, meals, breaks, recreational activities, and “down time”
- Vocational Skills: working alongside participants and direct support staff in areas such as organic gardening, farm animal care, food service, maintenance, housekeeping, sales/retail, clerical support, camp counseling/youth recreation
- Life Skills: maintain a clean living/work space, manage a schedule, set goals
- Teach direct support staff how to teach independent living skills through intentional role modeling
- Teach and model professional behaviors: punctuality, appropriate dress/appearance, following a schedule, time management, organization
- Provide 1:1 and small group coaching: helping young adults organize their rooms, do laundry, develop budgets
- Develop individualized supports: create checklists, visuals, written instructions
- Facilitate workshops related to independent living skills and social emotional learning
- Respond to issues which arise and hold individuals accountable for following program structures, routines and the participants' individualized program plans .
- Help organize, lead, and supervise on - and off - campus recreation activities and provide transportation for participants’ off-campus activities or perform errands to obtain supplies/materials using a Ramapo vehicle.
Qualifications:
- Experience supervising/coaching staff
- Experience with working with adolescents, young adults and/or people with disabilities
- Undergraduate degree in a related field
- Ability to live in residence on Ramapo’s Rhinebeck, NY campus
- Outstanding interpersonal (relationship-building) skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal support as well as work collaboratively with a team
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
