Pine Tree Camp opened its gates in 1945 as a summer camp for children with physical disabilities. Over the years, it has evolved into a place where children and adults with disabilities are able to participate in all the recreational activities for which Maine is known all year long. The barrier-free setting, along with an amazing staff, ensure that activities like swimming, fishing, kayaking, hiking, boating and even camping in a tent under the stars are completely accessible to all.

Our Camp Facilities Coordinator spends the summer camp-season primarily in Rome at Pine Tree Camp. During the "off season", this team-player also works with our other Pine Tree Society locations in Bath, Scarborough, and Auburn to assist with general maintenance projects as they are needed.

This position works with the Lead Facilities Coordinator and team in providing support in all aspects of general maintenance and upkeep of our Camp and office buildings. This position is service-oriented and looks for ways to assist others with our facility’s needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in trouble-shooting equipment issues and performing routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly and building systems operate efficiently.
  • Providing grounds upkeep, such as landscaping and snow removal.
  • Performing general cleaning of buildings or properties to ensure Pine Tree Camp is clean, attractive and is operating effectively, efficiently and safe.
  • Repairing, providing routine maintenance, and general upkeep of the buildings, grounds, wood lots, water/sewer facilities, roads, trails and campsites as well as the maintenance of vehicles and watercraft.
  • Operating camp vehicles, watercraft, and other equipment such as tractors with buckets, snow blowers, plow truck, etc.
  • Repair or replacement of defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and equipment reassembly.
  • Inspecting drives, motors, and belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or performing other maintenance actions, following checklists on all camp vehicles.
  • Using tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Planning and laying out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, or schematic diagrams.
  • Painting or repairing roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
  • Working with team members to provide support for, plan and coordinate volunteer activities at camp, including matching volunteers to jobs, supervising and ensuring an adequate supply of food, tools and materials.
  • Adhering to established Safety/Risk Management protocols to ensure a safe and healthy camp and workplace environment.

Qualifications; knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of machines and hand and power tools, including their designs, uses, repair, maintenance, and safe usage.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
  • Working knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in, mechanical, electrical and building trades; skills and knowledge to safely operate hand and power tools such as saws, drills, planers, chain saws, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Building Ordinance Codes of America (BOCA).
  • Demonstrated customer service abilities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with in a team environment.
  • High organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and shift focus as needs arise and priority shifts.
  • Basic math and computer skills to solve problems, provide documentation and figure materials needs.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

Education: High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate).

Experience: 2 years of relevant maintenance/facilities required

Background Checks: Must pass all required background checks including, but not limited to: motor vehicle, criminal, Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, and MaineCare background checks.

License/Insurance: Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with at least the state minimum automobile insurance coverage and the ability and willingness to travel to off-site locations.

Schedule: Monday to Friday 7 AM to 3:30 PM

***This full-time position may require working an excess of 40 hours/week based on the needs/demands of the season. Overtime will be paid for hours exceeding 40. There is an on-call aspect to this position and hours worked on call will be compensated at a rate of 1.5 (overtime) pay.
