Mountain Meadow Ranch is a co-ed, sleep away summer camp for kids ages 7 to 16. We have enjoyed 61 summers of family owned and operated summer camp life, our current directors are our third generation! Uniquely located on a spacious 900-acre ranch north of Lake Tahoe, in the northeastern slopes of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. We are nestled between the preserved natural beauty of the Lassen and Plumas National Forests, and the wild desert of the Great Basin. We offer a traditional camp program during the best weeks of summer. Our unique summer camp philosophy allows campers to bond and become like family through the many activities we provide.

OUT-TRIP SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION

The privilege of leading an out trip is an amazing opportunity! It gives you a beautiful way to inspire young people toward greater love and respect for all they will see and together see some of the most amazing places in Northern California. Our out-trips consist of 13 campers, two counselors (one of which is a trained van driver), and one van. Typically departing after breakfast and returning before dinner. However, depending on the destination, they may require more time. Some out-trips will get an early start and depart an hour before the rest of us eat breakfast. Our two primary and most popular destinations are the Lassen Day Trip, which includes Lassen National Park (either to summit Mt. Lassen or visit geothermal sites and incredible vistas within the park), Burney Falls, and Subway Cave. The other is The Desert Trip out to the Skedaddle mountains, lizard hunting, water caves, petroglyphs, and fossil beds. When leading an out trip, a counselor will pick up the kids the night before the out trip and make sure to fill out FOUR out-trip forms. (One for the kitchen, one for the camp nurse, one for the director, and one for you!) After picking, you will hold an out-trip meeting and inform the kids what to bring and any other need-to-know info! (discussed during staff training)

Summer Goals:

Mountain Meadow Ranch is blessed with an incredible location. You do not have to travel far from camp to see some of the most incredible places you have ever seen. Our purpose in offering out trips to our camp family is to provide campers with the opportunity to see and explore some of these places. Our trips are based on camper interests and are pretty much the same from session to session. As an out trip specialist, your summer goal should be fun and adventure smothered in safety. Traveling out of camp means exposure to an untold amount of hazards, and we need to know that you are the ultimate ‘mother hen’ when out of camp.

Prerequisites:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Open being a Van Driver and go through on-site 15-passenger Van Drivers Training (provided during staff week)
  • Enjoy driving and being in a van for long periods of time
  • Love of outdoors, National Parks, and KIDS!

*Please keep in mind, Mountain Meadow Ranch counselors act as both cabin counselors and activity instructors.

HERE AT MMR WE STRIVE TO CREATE A VERY UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT. AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS CONTRARY TO CONTEMPORARY CULTURE. WHERE TECHNOLOGY IS TRADED FOR ALL-PRESENT CONVERSATIONS AND AUTHENTIC FRIENDSHIPS. WHERE TRUE FUN IS HAD WITHOUT THE AID OF SUBSTANCES. WHERE THERE IS NO PRESSURE OR EXPECTANCY FOR ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS AND EVERYONE IS VIEWED AS FAMILY. OUR MISSION AND OUR COMMITMENT ARE AT THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO AT MOUNTAIN MEADOW AND SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WHEN SEEKING EMPLOYMENT WITH OUR FAMILY.

WE WANT TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE NORM AND WELCOME THE BENEFITS OF CHALLENGING OURSELVES TO GROW TO BECOME BETTER HUMANS.

WITH FULL HEARTS, WE ENDEAVOR TO BE PEOPLE THAT SEEK TO EXPERIENCE ALL THE FULFILLMENT AND PEACE MINDFUL LIVING CAN OFFER. THERE IS SO MUCH JOY IN DANCING OUTSIDE COMFORT-ZONES! CAMP IS AN INTENSIVE SHORT-LIVED TIME, FILLED WITH KIDS THAT NEED US TO BE PRESENT IN EVERY MOMENT. WE WANT STAFF THAT IS WILLING TO GIVE UP THEMSELVES FOR THE KIDS AND COMMIT TO A UNIQUE LIFESTYLE....IF YOU SEEK A SUMMER OF FUN ALONE, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK ELSEWHERE. TO SAY CAMP IS FUN IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT, FUN IS A GIVEN.

...BUT MMR ISN'T JUST A SUMMER CAMP. IT’S A PLACE WHERE FEARS ARE CONQUERED AND IDENTITIES ARE FOUND. IT’S A PLACE WHERE GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS ARE BORN AND FLOURISH. WE ARE GROWTH, UNPLUGGED, WHOLESOME ADVENTURE. WE PRACTICE STEWARDSHIP, INCLUSIVENESS, EMPATHY, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND INTEGRITY. AS WE CELEBRATE AUTHENTICITY, WE HELP EACH OTHER AS A FAMILY, FIND JOY IN OUR UNIQUENESS AND ENCOURAGE ALL TO DANCE OUTSIDE THEIR COMFORT ZONES. WE BELIEVE ALL THIS STARTS WITH OUR COUNSELORS.
