- Provide technical and logistical support for trail maintenance/construction, conservation, natural resource, and special initiative projects
- Develop Project Information Sheets and Emergency Response Plans to communicate to crews the specific details regarding project work
- Manage regional inventory of vehicles, tools and gear
- Instill a culture of professionalism and caring, cultivate safety awareness within crews. Ensure compliance with MCC policies and safety standards within all crews
- Ensure field work and activities are in compliance with MCC policies and regulations
- Visit adult, youth and specialty crews in the field to provide guidance, support, and assistance to crew leaders as well as ensure that project accomplishments meet project partner expectations
- Communicate with project partners as needed to coordinate project work logistics
- Respond to in-field issues and emergencies; provide emotional and behavioral support to participants
- Coordinate and organize gear and tool cache inventory systems and usage
- Provide direction, support, and mentoring to regional leaders and members, including ongoing training, feedback, and periodic written evaluation of leader and member performance
- Ensure high quality implementation of MCC programming; thorough knowledge of MCC program objectives and outcomes as well as education and training curriculum
- Plan and implement regional technical trainings for all participants
- Provide assistance with the delivery of non-technical training components
- Demonstrate an ability to work across differences to promote inclusion of all staff, participants and partners
- Oversee participant wellness through reviewing bi-weekly paperwork such as crew reports or incident reports, and conducting one-on-one check-ins and debriefing. Assist with filing workers compensation claims when appropriate
- Attend and support statewide trainings when requested
- In coordination with Program Manager, provide behavior improvement guidance and fair and appropriate discipline for participants as necessary
- Ensure crew paperwork is of high quality and properly filed/submitted in a timely fashion; including programmatic evaluations, Timesheets, Crew Reports, Incident Reports, Workers Compensation, Partner Evaluations, Project Accomplishments, and participant evaluations
- Monitor projects and provide written documentation of field visits and program activities
- Participate in an emergency on-call schedule
- Coordinate all in-field project documentation requirements with Crew Leaders, including written and photographic documentation of project accomplishments
- At least two years of college or military experience, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum age of 21
- Previous leadership experience, skills, or training
- Previous experience teaching, leading, or training groups of young adults
- Current Wilderness Advanced First-Aid/CPR certification required; or willing to obtain

Field Coordinator

The Field Coordinator (FC) staff position is responsible for the regional coordination and logistical support of all Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) field-based activities. Primary duties include direct support and mentoring of Crew Leaders and Crew Members for adult, youth and specialty programs, with emphasis on the development and delivery of technical skills training, technical and logistical coordination for MCC crews in the field, as well as shared monitoring and implementation of MCC’s leadership development program and administrative components. Additional activities will include teaching and modeling fundamental skills to participants, field visitation to help ensure the successful and safe completion of MCC projects, and ensuring compliance with MCC policies and procedures. The FC is supervised by the Regional Program Manager and is expected to maintain good communication between all MCC offices, project partners and crews.

Expedition Leader

What you will do:
Expedition Leaders support and supervise Montana high school youth in the successful completion of natural resource and community service projects, provide on-site management of a youth crew, implement curriculum and actively facilitate crew dynamics to ensure a high level of crew community and safety. Expedition Leaders will work with a co-leader to oversee 4-6 youth participants on two-week overnight service projects. Youth participants are Montana residents ages 14-18 years old and come from a variety of backgrounds. Each expedition will be with a different roster of youth participants. Expedition Leaders and their crews will camp for the full duration of the two week session, oftentimes in remote locations on varied terrain and in all weather conditions. Camping accommodations vary, but tend to be car-camping in backcountry settings. Work may include building or maintaining trails, building fences, and habitat restoration, among many other types of conservation projects. Who We Are

Crews will camp for the full duration of a hitch (i.e. 4-9 day project assignment), oftentimes in remote locations on varied terrain and in all weather conditions. Camping accommodations vary, including car-camping and remote backcountry settings away from a vehicle. Project work is physically demanding, and could include trail maintenance and construction, habitat restoration, mesic restoration, planting, backcountry work, forest fuels reduction, and more. Forestry crews offer opportunities to gain considerable field experience in a variety of Forest Service timber management activities. Wildland Restoration Teams in Missoula, Bozeman, and Kalispell work with a diverse range of stakeholders (private, government, and non-profit) in order to achieve large scale land conservation efforts with rural communities throughout the state of Montana. This is a great opportunity for current students, recent college graduates, or anyone who has an interest in restoration to gain practical field experience in a rapidly growing area of conservation, with and a strong potential for future career paths. Wildland Restoration Teams mitigate invasive plants through mechanical, chemical, and biological efforts. Crew use herbicide to manage invasive weeds, and MCC provides professional level training in the safe use and transport of chemicals. Wildland Restoration Teams manage invasive weeds in the remote Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, The Payette National Forest, Glacier National Park, and on the breathtaking plains of eastern Montana. Wildland Restoration Teams may also work on a variety of other projects, including stream restoration, beaver-dam mimicry, non-native fish removal, fencing, planting, trail building and more. Wildland Restoration Teams in Helena will participate in a variety of innovative wetlands and habitat restoration projects, with a main focus on mesic restoration techniques including beaver mimicry and in-stream beaver-dam analog construction, a simple, effective, and non-invasive approach to riparian restoration. Crews will construct beaver mimicry structures (Low Tech Process Based Restoration) to effectively slow down and spread water over the landscape to expand critical habitat, mitigate wildfire, reduce invasive species and increase water availability in traditionally parched times of year. Studies have shown that these stream remediation efforts in the treated watershed mitigated the effects of drought, reduced the risk of catastrophic wildfire and flooding, improved water quality, expanded critical wildlife habitat and created a micro-climate with reduced air and water temperatures. Projects are often rigorous, requiring participants to carry and use heavy power equipment and work in hot weather across rugged terrain while wearing protective gear. Not all CMs will work on all types of projects. Crews may be deployed for natural disaster relief. Montana Conservation Corps believes that through conservation service work and authentic connection, you can sharpen your ability to create change and join the next generation of leaders for a better world. What you will do:
As a crew member, you will work on 4-9 day overnight conservation projects on some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Northern Rockies and Plains. Your crew will be made up of adults who are 17-30 years old and come from a variety of backgrounds and locations throughout the country. Crews will camp for the full duration of a hitch (i.e. 4-9 day project assignment), oftentimes in remote locations on varied terrain and in all weather conditions. Camping accommodations vary, including car-camping and remote backcountry settings away from a vehicle. Project work is physically demanding, and could include trail maintenance and construction, habitat restoration, mesic restoration, planting, backcountry work, forest fuels reduction, and more. The Women’s Field Crew focuses on creating an experience where women can come together and work as a crew to tackle trail work projects, live in remote woodland settings, and focus on personal and professional growth within their team. This crew is for anyone who identifies as a woman and/or femme. We welcome trans applicants who are comfortable in a femme-identifying space. As part of the Women's Field Crew, you will be with other female identifying individuals with a focus on getting work done for America’s public lands.

Youth Program Field Coordinator

The Field Coordinator for Youth Programs (FCYP) staff position is responsible for the field coordination and logistical support of all Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) youth program field-based activities. Primary duties include technical and logistical coordination of MCC project work in the field. Duties also include direct support and mentoring of youth crew leaders and enrolled youth in the program. Additional activities will include field visitation to help ensure the successful and safe completion of MCC projects, and ensuring compliance with MCC policies and procedures. The FCYP is supervised by the Youth Program Manager and is expected to maintain good communication between all MCC offices, project partners and crews.
