About Mermaid Grotto

Welcome to the Mermaid Grotto! Nestled at the end of Port Avenue next to the busy Alaska Railroad Train Depot, the Mermaid Grotto caters to both locals and tourists alike. We renovated an industrial boat garage into this incredible gathering space in 2020. 2024 will be our fourth summer in business. We are open from April to October for the busy Seward season.

Mermaid Grotto

The Mermaid Grotto downstairs offers a casual dining atmosphere with taphouse vibes. Great for getting a brew and bite before or after venturing out to explore the town and waters beyond. We are open for lunch and dinner, offering entrees, small plates, salads and deserts. During the warm summer months we roll up our 16 foot garage door and offer open-air seating on the patio featuring mountain-top views.

KRAKEN Lounge

The Kraken Lounge at the Grotto upstairs exudes an upscale atmosphere focusing on Alaska Seafood and shareable plates. Guest can enjoy one of our locally brewed beers, cider, or bubbly’s and taking in breathtaking bay and mountain views by day, while the vibes are even classier by night. Beer, bubbles and bites, this spot is like no other!

Employee Perks

In addition to getting to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, employees also receive a 25% discount in our gift store and food discounts in our restaurant. We offer discounted rates on our family owned fishing charter company to go out and catch Alaska Halibut and Salmon when space allows. Employees that finish their contract commitment are also eligible for an end of season bonus.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Seward is a small community and getting around is fairly easy. We can help you arrange the two-hour transportation from Anchorage Airport to Seward when you arrive. Getting around Seward can be done on foot, with the local free shuttle, taxis, or biking. There is a bike shop in town selling both new and used rides. Having your own wheels will definitely make getting around easier, but is not absolutely necessary.

For Fun

Hiking, biking, going to the beaches, bike park with a pump track, and frisbee golf are all free local activities for when you have time off. There is also zip lining, river and ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, wildlife boat tours, and dog sledding if you are up for a paid experience. We want you to get out there and experience everything Seward has to offer!
