The Employee Experience

We have been hosting guests at Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters for nearly 100 years. Our crew is essential in helping create a warm and welcoming place for people and families to continue making memories. We are looking for crew members that love the outdoors, customer service, and want to welcome guests and fellow teammates from all walks of life.

We live and work on site in our remote location - 1 hour from the nearest town (Grand Marais, MN) and 3 hours from the nearest city services (Duluth, MN). We aim for work life balance with an average of 40 hour work weeks and two consecutive days off. Full time schedule is a goal not a guarantee. Resort and outfitting work may require flexibility in your schedule or role, and we aim to hire team players that like a variety of work.

If you love the outdoors and a geographically remote location - you’ll love it here.
If you need bars, shopping, or movie theaters - we’re not the best place for you.

With a plethora of work and learning opportunities, our crew may stay for a summer season or develop a career with us. We offer on site housing at a discounted rate that includes high speed WiFi, laundry facilities, discounted grocery service, and walking distance to all jobs.

During off time, our crew enjoys access to hiking trails on site, canoes and kayaks depending on guest use, activities like zip lining and horseback riding, commons space to gather and watch movies, outdoor space with picnic table and chairs, and more.

Ideal Candidate

The two most important qualities we look for in our team are a cheerful attitude and willingness to go the extra mile. All crew members interact with guests which requires a love for people, passion for nature, and heart for service.

As our teammates depend on each other, reliability and honesty are paramount. Our goal is to have an organized, logical, and level-headed team with very good communication skills and warm personalities. We are responsible for communicating with guests (in person, over the phone, email, etc.) and reporting issues to the guest services team, maintenance, or management to resolve all guests’ concerns and ensure their comfort and satisfaction.

- Hospitality work or life experience
- Willingness to help others
- Love of the outdoors and all weather conditions
- Team player that gets along well with others (on and off the clock)
- Passion for rural living (one hour from town, three hours from city)

All employees must appear neat and well groomed. We provide uniform shirts for staff. Detailed description of uniform and grooming requirements are provided upon hire.
