Operates lifts safely and efficiently by assisting guests to use them, performing inspections, safety checks and maintaining loading/unloading areas before opening and throughout the operating day. Ensures guests are seated correctly and safely; slow and stop the lift as needed. Load and unload mountain bikes from lift carriers safely. Scan tickets and passes to verify that all guests have a valid ticket or pass. Interact with guests to provide exceptional guest service and efficient, safe lift riding. A key part of every employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Responsible to report to work in appropriate uniform and follow grooming/appearance standards.
  2. Attend daily meetings and participate in safety discussions and training.
  3. Ensure that all mechanical components are functioning properly by checking and performing routine inspections and notifying Lift Maintenance of any abnormalities.
  4. Perform lift start-up procedures including return station checks, drive station checks, and line check. Test stops, speed controls, indicator lights, switches, brakes etc.
  5. Set up loading and unloading stations for the operating day by placing signage, rope lines, and preparing the work area for the day. Break downloading and unloading station set ups at the conclusion of Lift Operations for the day.
  6. Clear debris from chairs and ensure carriers are clean and ready for public use.
  7. Monitor area neatness around loading and unloading areas, clearing hazards, as necessary.
  8. Operate lifts safely and efficiently by following established procedures outlined in the Lift Operations Manual and training programs. Understand the use of the operator controls and emergency procedures.
  9. Verify that riders have valid lift tickets by ensuring that all tickets and passes are scanned. Refuse entry to those without a valid ticket and refer them to the appropriate personnel.
  10. Ensure safe loading, riding, and unloading of the lift by assisting guests and providing instructions to inexperienced lift riders.
  11. Direct guests to appropriate lift entrances and exits.
  12. Assist guests to load and unload the lift by visually observing and monitoring the station, providing verbal instruction when needed.
  13. Use the lift’s controls to slow or stop the lift to facilitate safe loading, riding, and unloading.
  14. Respond promptly to weather-related holds and follow established procedures to unload passengers and prepare equipment for inclement weather.
  15. Continuously monitor the operation of the lift and correct problems by notifying the Lift Operations Supervisor or lift maintenance of concerns or unsafe conditions.
  16. Safely operate ATV and UTV machinery on mountain roads to access workstations, following established company vehicle training and policies.
  17. Effectively communicate using telephones and two-way radios.
  18. Provide superior service to our guests (internal and external) by interacting with guests, answering questions, and providing resort and mountain information.
  19. Respond to all guests and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
  20. Positively contributes to team effort by assisting other staff as needed.
  21. Perform closing procedures by unloading all riders from lift, shutting down, secure lift house and tools.
  22. Fill out incident reports.
  23. Complete all appropriate paperwork daily including stop logs and checklists.
  24. Maintain cleanliness standards of assigned lift houses and surrounding areas.
  25. Perform other tasks as assigned.
  26. Flexible working hours. Some job sharing may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY

  1. Protect the safety of self-workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests.
  2. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
  3. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
  4. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort’s Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
  5. Skis within ability level, taking safe and direct routes of travel. Follows Skier’s Responsibility Code.
  6. Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
  7. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or GED preferred. Attend provided lift training classes and training sessions. Minimum 18 years of age.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Greet customers congenially and answer various questions about resort trails, weather, trail closures, lift schedules, riding time, and general information about the resort and area. Read and understand manuals, safety signs, machinery control labels, warning placards and indicator panels as printed.

REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to read, understand and abide by policies, procedures, and training material. Must be able to make decisions within established parameters, seeking guidance from more experienced or supervisory staff when needed, and react quickly to emergency situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must possess the dexterity to safely operate off-road vehicles on mountain roads, such as ATV’s and UTV’s.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee will work outside regularly in all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work environment includes noise from Motor Rooms of lifts, off-road vehicles and machinery working in the area.
