About Golden Eagle Lodge

We are located 27 miles up the Gunflint Trail on the quiet shores of Flour Lake, within 2 miles of the BWCA and 3 miles from the Canadian border. Fishing, canoeing, hiking, and skiing are right out your back door! Come enjoy our beautiful wilderness environment with modern comforts and great job opportunities. We are a small resort, with staff size ranging from 5-8 individuals, including owners. Many of our staff stay for several years.

About the owners:

As a lifelong resident of the Gunflint Trail, Zach enjoys all things lake and forest. From fishing, to mushrooming, he loves exploring the natural world. One of his ongoing projects, for which he has a great passion, has been creating a large network of winter snowshoe trails to complement the already-existing ski trail system.

Ruth is an avid cyclist and cross-country skier. Coming from a background in agriculture, she enjoys working outdoors, and long hours spent grooming the ski trails to the pinnacle of perfection.

Zach and Ruth's Golden Retriever can usually be found playing in the lake, frolicking in the snow, riding along in the PistenBully trail groomer, or greeting staff and guests at the door!

The Employee Experience

Golden Eagle Lodge is a family-owned and operated year-round resort. We have 11 lakefront cabins and a small campground. We value an energetic and positive work environment. Staff are encouraged to take advantage of our location with free use of most rental equipment. A typical work week consists of five 8-hour workdays with two consecutive days off, giving our staff plenty of time to enjoy the area. Both full-time seasonal and full-time year-round positions are open starting immediately.

Semi-private housing is provided in our large staff house. This is the previous owner's private house and is very comfortable with ample space. Each staff member has a private bedroom and bathroom with locking doors. Fridge, pantry, and cupboard space are divided between employees. In addition, the house has two large living rooms, a large kitchen, a dining room, and a three-season porch as shared spaces. Coin laundry is located in the basement at the cost of $1/wash cycle. There is no charge for use of the dryer. We expect our staff to keep this house clean and orderly, being particularly respectful of all shared spaces. Staff will also enjoy a covered deck, private yard, and use of a charcoal grill. There are raised beds in the backyard if anyone is interested in maintaining a garden.

High-speed internet is available on the resort. The Gunflint Trail doesn't have widespread cell phone coverage, but we do have a Verizon hotspot that covers our lodge and employee housing buildings.

Several fully private units are available for staff who choose to stay on full-time, year-round.

Use of illicit drugs is prohibited by all staff, and no smoking is allowed in any resort buildings.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Employees must have their own vehicle. While our staff lives on site and can walk to work, we are located 45 minutes or 27 miles from the nearest town. There is no public transportation on the Gunflint Trail. Many things can be ordered via Amazon, Walmart, and other online retailers, but simply put, not everything can be done this way. Additionally, having your own vehicle will give you the freedom to explore attractions along the Gunflint Trail and North Shore.

For Fun

Nestled in the Superior National Forest on the edge of the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness, nature is our playground. Hiking, fishing, and canoeing are some of the most popular outdoor activities in our area, but the list goes on.

Flour Lake is ideal for recreating, being small enough to canoe, kayak, and paddle board on, but big enough to support a healthy fish population. We maintain one of the largest cross country ski trail systems in Minnesota, and in the summer, these trails are great for fat tire and mountain biking. Additionally, nearby roads boast some very fast gravel for gravel biking and trail running! We are a dark sky sanctuary, making our night skies some of the darkest in the world - perfect for any aspiring photographer! Wildlife viewing, berry picking and foraging occupy many summer and fall afternoons. Hang a hammock under a few of our many white or red pines and enjoy the amphitheater of the Boreal Forest. There is something for every outdoor enthusiast at Golden Eagle Lodge.
