About Glacier National Park Conservancy

Glacier National Park Conservancy is the official non-profit fundraising partner of Glacier National Park. Operating four retail outlets is one of the ways we raise funds to support park projects.

Our retail staff provides exceptional customer service and shares a true love for Glacier Park with visitors from all corners. Not only will you have the opportunity to work in the heart of Glacier Park, but you'll also have the satisfaction of giving back to the park in a meaningful way.  In 2022, our staff raised $181,028 in donations simply by asking visitors, "Would you like to add a donation for Glacier Park?" In doing so, we were able to fully fund Glacier's Native America Speaks program for 2023, as well as a Recycling & Sustainability project! In 2023, our staff raised $218,716 and were able to fully fund Half the Park Happens After Dark - Glacier's astronomy programs, as well as a bear management project, both for the 2024 season! All those donations at the register add up and we are able to increase our impact bit by bit each year.

Our work is only possible because the land that is today Glacier National Park has been cared for and stewarded by our Native American neighbors - the Blackfeet, Salish, Pend d’Oreille, and Kootenai. It is a great privilege to pay forward this stewardship and to fund projects that not only preserve this unique landscape but also ensure that people from all walks of life have the opportunity to experience and be inspired by Glacier Park. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are values at the very core of who we are and what we do at the Conservancy. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for both staff and visitors.

Come be instrumental to our mission and enjoy the spectacular landscapes and hiking trails that make Glacier National Park a truly special place!

The Employee Experience

For a look at what it's like to spend a summer working with us in Glacier Park, check out our employee blogs and watch our staff video!

Working for the Glacier Conservancy feels different than working for a larger company operating in the National Parks.  We are a medium-sized non-profit organization, and we hire about 35 seasonal employees to work in our four retail locations and warehouse. With an organization like ours, you cannot get lost in bureaucracy, and we strive to make your summer employment a meaningful experience.

Our retail store locations include the Historic Belton Train Depot (West Glacier), Apgar Visitor Center, Logan Pass Visitor Center, and St Mary Visitor Center. We offer a wide range of products in our stores: books, maps, t-shirts, bear spray, postcards, ornaments, magnets - you name it! Our products are carefully selected for authenticity and interpretive value.

Some employees work primarily at the Logan Pass Visitor Center store with some shifts at the Apgar and Belton stores. Employees hired for the St Mary Visitor Center work primarily at St Mary with some shifts at Logan Pass. Our employees value the varied schedule - working in several locations with different teams of people.

Most seasonal employees work about 40 hours per week, but we do hire a few part-time employees. Full time employees generally work four 10 hour shifts per week with a 3 day weekend.

We value your time away from work, and we strive to schedule consecutive days off per week. While we do our best to accommodate special scheduling requests, we ask that employees keep additional time off requests to a minimum.

Ideal Candidate

We are the official fundraising partner for Glacier Park, so all our hard work ultimately helps preserve and protect this unique place for future generations! Our ideal candidate possesses the following qualities/skills:

  • Cares deeply about our National Parks!
  • Is available to work during the time frame of May to October (our busy season)
  • Has the willingness to learn new skills
  • Can be adaptable to changing circumstances... We often have to adjust our well-laid plans to accommodate Mother Nature (wildfires, snowstorms, the pandemic, etc. can and has altered our operations at times).
  • Can work hard and thrive in a team environment
  • Has strong computer skills
  • Has the ability to keep calm under pressure and troubleshoot problems
  • Is flexible and willing to work a schedule that can include evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Has a positive attitude & sense of humor
  • Is passionate about connecting visitors to our mission... Our seasonal staff interacts with many of the 3 million visitors to Glacier Park in just 4 short months! We have a unique opportunity to connect with visitors and educate them about the Glacier Conservancy!

Applicants with retail, hospitality, warehouse or customer service experience are given top consideration in the hiring process.

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to offer sponsorships for J1 or H2B applicants.

A note on availability: We do not have any positions to offer that end in August. We have a few that go just beyond the Labor Day weekend, but most of our positions go through the end of September or into October.

Room and Board

The Conservancy can help with housing options for your summer in Glacier Park.

We have two employee houses, one located about a 15-minute drive from West Glacier in Hungry Horse, MT, and one located just outside the West Entrance of Glacier Park in West Glacier, MT. Both are single family homes, not dorms. Bedrooms are shared with a roommate or roommates. We have a limited number of spaces available in employee housing. Full-time employees can live in housing for a modest rent deducted from their paycheck. Both houses offer onsite washer & dryer. Utilities, internet, PO Box, and basic supplies are provided.

If you're interested in working at the St Mary Visitor Center (on the east side), you will need an RV or your own housing in St Mary. There are very limited housing options in that area.

Employees that receive housing from GNPC are required to be available to work 40 hours per week.

Please note that you will need to provide your own transportation.  Public transportation in the area is VERY limited, and it would be challenging to manage here without a personal vehicle.

GNPC does not offer meal plans.

Employee Perks

The Glacier Conservancy offers some great perks for our employees!

  • Employee vehicle Park Pass
  • End of Season Bonus for completion of the employment agreement
  • We strive to schedule 3 consecutive days off per week to maximize your free time
  • 40% discount in our park stores
  • Working at the top of the Going-to-the-Sun Road with spectacular views of Logan Pass!

Getting Here and Getting Around

Unfortunately, there is not good public transportation here, so bringing a personal vehicle is highly recommended. Employee housing is not located on-site, so a vehicle is necessary to drive to and from work.

Although biking to work might not always be practical, we definitely recommend bringing a bike - there are some great cycling opportunities here!

We're happy to help with transportation to and from Glacier International Airport (FCA) or the Amtrak Stations (Whitefish, West Glacier or East Glacier), but we cannot provide transportation on a daily basis to and from work.

For Fun

Glacier National Park is known as a hiker's and peak bagger's paradise. During your summer here, you will have easy access to an incredible system of trails that can lead you to remote alpine lakes, through beautiful forests, and to the top of rugged peaks. There are also great opportunities in the area for mountain biking, fishing, camping, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding, golf and more.

Throughout the summer, we love to organize fun activities for our seasonal staff, and we're always open to suggestions!
