    Lifeguard (hourly)

    $25.00 / hour
    Camp Whispering Winds

    Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is looking for a seasonal Lifeguard for our Whispering Winds camp location this summer. As a Lifeguard at Girl Scouts camp, you'll spend your days supervising swimmers at the pool or lake and may be asked to canoe, kayak, or do other program activities with groups.

     

    $25 per hour, July & August, 38 hours per week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday - Sunday. On-site housing may be available for the right candidate who does not live in the area.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Set up, maintain, and close program areas for use. Including pool and facility cleaning and maintenance.
    • Provide scheduled program area time and activities.
    • Ensure the safety of user groups during all pool activities. Instruct users in the safe use of facilities. 
    • Request/order needed program supplies and equipment within budget limitations.
    • Support other program areas outside of pool opening hours, including small watercraft activities, archery, and low ropes, depending on your skills and interests. Certification/training may be provided.
    • Support the camp ranger with facility cleaning and minor groundskeeping, such as raking, outside of pool opening hours.

     

    Requirements:

    Certifications and permits - possess or able to obtain by June 10, 2024. Must be valid and not expired.

    • At least 18 years of age.
    • Lifeguard certification.
    • Child and Adult CPR/First Aid certification or higher.
    • Skill and a passion for swimming and water-related activities.
    • Strong swimmer. Able to pass the physical requirements of lifeguarding certification.
    • Experience working with children, young adults, and adults.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
    • Walking and standing up to 80% of the time on flat or uneven terrain.
    • Stooping, squatting, and bending.
    • Reaching overhead and below shoulder level.

     Preferred Skills:

    • Small craft certification
    • Archery certification
    • Low ropes certification

     

    Location: Camp Whispering Winds, Philomath, OR: This 220-acre camp is located in the lush hills of Kings Valley, northwest of Philomath and Corvallis, Oregon. The property has picturesque meadows, forests, a central lake, ponds, and a pool. Activities at Camp Whispering Winds include canoeing, archery, mountain biking, and a low ropes course. Rafting, tubing, and paddle-boarding activities are available nearby.

    Program

    Camp Director

    $950.00 / week
    Camp Arrowhead

    Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is seeking a flexible and self-motivated Camp Director to oversee the summer camp program operations of one of our beautiful Girl Scouts camp locations in the Columbia River Gorge. The Camp Director is responsible for hiring and managing camp staff, ensuring high-quality camp programs, and overseeing the safety and operations of the site within budget.

     

    The Position:

    • Compensation – Pre-camp $18.25/hour, during camp $950 per week, plus accommodations. Not eligible for GSOSW benefits. During camp season, staff are paid a daily rate based on the position, applicable certifications, and previous experience in that role, plus a $400 retention bonus for completing the season.
    • Hours – During the pre-camp season, from January through June, this position works part-time on a nonexempt hourly basis. During the camp season, June through September, the Camp Director works full-time on an exempt, salaried basis.
    • Location – During the pre-camp period, from January through June, this position may work out of any of our service centers throughout the state or remotely in Oregon or Washington. You must live in Oregon or Washington, and you must be able to travel to in-person meetings at various locations throughout the council. The Camp Director is required to live on-site at Camp Arrowhead during the camp season in rustic facilities, with limited time off.
      • Camp Arrowhead, Stevenson, WA
        Located at the base of Dog Mountain and Wind Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge, Camp Arrowhead has 260 acres of forest, meadows, trails, a pool, and a lake with varied terrain and dramatic views. Camp Arrowhead activities include hiking, white water rafting, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, archery, and a swimming pool.

     

    Requirements:

    • At least 21 years of age (American Camp Association regulation).
    • Three summers in an organized camp setting or other equivalent work with children.
    • Experience in a supervisory role.
    • Experience working with children, young adults, and adults.
    • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (Possess or able to obtain):
      • Wilderness First Aid certification or higher.
      • Food Handler’s Permit required by specific county and state.
      • Aquatic, Equestrian, or Challenge certifications as necessary.
      • Valid Driver’s License in good standing and good driving record.
    • Interest, knowledge, skill, and passion in a variety of camp programs.
    • The ability to provide leadership, counsel, motivation, and supervision to a staff of up to 30.
    • The ability to set objectives, delegate, and prioritize workflow to meet goals efficiently.
    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations specific to camping situations.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
    • Ability to resolve conflicts and creatively solve problems.
    • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.

    • You must live in Oregon or Washington.

    Responsibilities:

    • Hire, train, assign, manage, and support camp staff at Camp Arrowhead.
    • Develop staff training materials and subsequent programs for pre-camp staff training and ongoing training during the summer.
    • Provide opportunities for professional development and personal growth for staff.
    • Ensure the performance management and performance evaluation of all camp staff.
    • Participate, plan, and lead effective staff meetings.
    • Ensure camp, council, and ACA policies and practices are being followed.
    • Ensure camp activities provide a safe, fun experience for all girls and visitors; deliver all planned programs.
    • Create a camp curriculum that is aligned with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
    • Develop and promote positive relationships with campers, staff, and parents.
    • Work with the site ranger in the use of equipment and coordinate facility needs, maintenance, and site-specific procedures.
    • Ensure communication of issues to proper people, including staff, council staff, and ranger, to provide smooth operations.
    • Supervise the administration of the budget through reporting and sound business operations.
    • Develop, interpret, and administer policies, procedures and practices, and risk management for camp operations as outlined by the American Camp Association and GSUSA.
    • Coordinate special events and visitors to camp.

    Troop Camp Coordinator

    $540.00 - $600.00 / week

    Responsibilities

    • Provide excellent customer service as you support the troops who will be onsite during the beginning of each session.
    • Ensure that they are oriented to camp, know their schedule and where to report and when, checking in on them once or twice a day.
    • Keep the team and camp director informed of unit and/or program area issues for Troop Camp.
    • Run the camp Facebook page, communicating with families, posting camp photos.
    • Pick up, sort, print and deliver camper mail each day.
    • Maintains the camp trading post.
    • Purchase supplies as necessary, within budget. Check incoming supplies against orders and invoices.

    Requirements

    • At least 21 years of age. (preferred)
    • At least one year in an organized camp setting or other equivalent work with children.
    • Experience working with children, young adults, and adults.

    Assistant Camp Director

    $620.00 - $680.00 / week

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for running camp in the absence of the camp director.
    • Responsible for supervising the health and food service programs and staff.
    • Keep records of income and expenses at camp.
    • Review standing orders and notify the camp director if there are any issues.
    • Purchase supplies as necessary, within budget.
    • Check incoming supplies against orders and invoices.
    • Keep the camp director informed of health and safety issues.
    • Ensure sanitation procedures for the kitchen, dining area, and health center are followed.
    • Maintain files and documents, and reports, as required.

    • At least one year in an organized camp setting or other equivalent work with children.
    • Experience working with children, young adults, and adults.
    • Interest, knowledge, skills, and passion in a variety of camp programs.

    Counselor-in-Training Coordinator

    $495.00 - $555.00 / week
    Camp Arrowhead, Camp Cleawox

    Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Coordinator + $400 retention bonus for completing the season!

    Responsibilities: 

    • Organize CIT camp living unit, including housekeeping activities and program.
    • Develop a training program that includes camping and leadership skills for becoming a staff member, based on the needs of participants.
    • Work with unit staff to supervise and evaluate the leadership abilities of CITs during their unit/program area time.
    • Evaluate girls' progress in the CIT program and make recommendations for each girl's future development.
    • Responsible for the health and safety conditions of campers and staff in the unit.
    • Serve as a resource for program skills.
    • Guide activities and experiences in the unit through girl planning.
       

    Requirements:

    • At least 21 years of age.
    • At least one year in an organized camp setting or other equivalent work with children.
    • Experience working with children, young adults, and adults.
    • Interest, knowledge, skills, and passion in a variety of camp programs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Supervise, support, and evaluate assigned unit staff and program specialists.
    • Assist with camp, including living in the unit, housekeeping, and programs.
    • Ensure quality program activities are planned with campers and delivered responsibly.
    • Ensure all units and program areas run smoothly and safely, per GSUSA and GSOSW policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities:

    • Multiple positions are open, including outdoor skills, archery, lifeguard, crafts, and wrangler. 
    • Assist in the training of staff during pre-camp in program activities.
    • Set up, maintain, and close program areas for use during camp.
    • Work with units to schedule program area time and activities.
    • Live in a unit with 8-24 campers and assist with unit activities when not scheduled in a program area/activity.
    • Develop and deliver activities that support the accomplishment of program goals, including earning Girl Scout recognitions.
    • Request/order needed program supplies and equipment within budget limitations.


    Requirements:

    • At least 18 years of age.
    • Certification or documented training and experience in one or more of the following: archery, lifeguarding, small craft safety (canoe, kayaks, rowboats), adventure challenge/leadership/belay, crafts, horses, and/or nature with a willingness to gain skill in other areas.
    • Experience working with children, young adults, and adults. 
    • Interest, knowledge, or skill, and a passion for a variety of camp programs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Live in the unit with 8-24 campers and help each girl adjust and become used to other campers and camp life.
    • Assist in guiding the individual campers to participate in group camp activities.
    • Responsible for the health and safety of campers in the unit; carry out health and safety regulations.
    • Work closely with the unit team to provide programs and other activities within the unit.
    • Assist in guiding activities and experiences in the unit through girl planning.


    Requirements:

    • At least 18 years of age.
    • Experience working with children, young adults, and adults. 
    • Interest, knowledge, or skill, and a passion for a variety of camp programs. 
    • Possess or can obtain Child and Adult CPR/First Aid certification or higher.
