GCI's Mgr Sr, Agulawak Retreat is responsible for the direction and overall management of the Agulawak Retreat including daily operations, planning, permitting, maintenance, and supply logistics of the facility. Responsible for budgeting and project management as well as ensuring the facility is fully trained and staffed.

Pre and Post -Season Duties:
- Capital project planning, materials procurement, and shipping.
- Staffing and hiring
- Operations planning
- Supply procurement and shipping
- Permitting for facilities and staff
- Operations and Capital Budgeting
- Create a Staffing plan for the following season.
- Identify and plan Capital and Maintenance Projects for the following season.
Facilities: Organize, schedule, and ensure the quality of guest accommodations and activities; direct flight operations pertaining to transport, supply logistics and guest activities; Inventory and obtain necessary supplies (equipment, food, fuel, parts, materials; supervise building and equipment maintenance; Pilot boat used for supply runs; conduct safety inspections and training.
Oversee and manage daily operations of the Agulowak, delegate and supervise staff responsibilities. Responsible for hiring, leading, developing and managing the performance of those reporting to this position; establishes and communicates clear performance expectations, makes recommendations for salary increases. Provide timely annual performance reviews for all direct reports and ensure that all employees within the department receive annual performance reviews on time. Responsible for team results and recommends and /or approves promotions, demotions, transfers, or disciplinary actions up to and including termination. Maintains union free workforce through effective communication and regular feedback to employees regarding their performance against expectations and use of effective performance recognition of groups involved.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing a lodge or hotel in a remote location, with construction and maintenance experience, or in a similar environment.
- Two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory/managerial role required.
- High School diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality/Hotel Management, Business Administration, Culinary Arts, or a related field is required.
- In addition to the minimum experience required, a degree may be substituted with relevant exempt work experience on a year-for-year basis.
Certifications Required: First Aid/CPR/AED training; Coast Guard Limited OUPV License
Additional industry specific certifications are highly valued and may contribute toward education.
Physical Requirements: Must be capable of performing a variety of physical functions involving lifting and carrying loads up to 70 lbs., efficiently and safely entering and exiting aircraft, boats and other motorized equipment, climbing ladders to heights of 20 feet, bending, reaching, working in cramped spaces and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Working Conditions: Must live and work at a remote Retreat location (with employer provided room and board) for a period of approximately 6 months. The work schedule is seven (7) days per week. Most duties are performed outside with exposure to weather. Travel to remote locations by large and small aircraft required.
The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to an immediate emergency. As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.
Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
