Nothing Has Potential for Adventure Like a Bike!

Cycle Alaska is a full-service bike shop, tour, and rental company. We have been rooted in the Juneau community for more than 24 years. Cycle Alaska has been named one of America’s Best Bike Shops by the National Bike Dealers Association 8 years in a row! In 2023 we were awarded the President's Award, a prestigious accolade only awarded to 5 premier bike shops in the nation!

Juneau, Alaska (America's most scenic capital city!) is located on the beautiful Gastineau Channel, surrounded by gorgeous mountains!

About Cycle Alaska

Here at Cycle Alaska, we believe that teamwork is what helps us to meet our mission of “creating great memories for our guests and employees”. With smaller tour sizes, you get a chance to talk with guests one-on-one creating a personalized Juneau experience.  Your time here in Juneau will be memorable. The sight of an eagle on wing reaching for a salmon, the slow meander of a porcupine or beaver moving from one meal to the next, or the faint pink hue of alpenglow resting on the snow-covered summer peaks is sure to make your summer stay here in Juneau unique.  Every day provides a different experience here in Alaska’s capitol. Because of all of this outstanding natural beauty, Juneau has been voted one of the top cities in the U.S. for summer jobs!

The Employee Experience

2023 Guide Testimonial: "What a freaking blast of a time. Amazing crew, good hours. Lots to do in Juneau, hike on some glaciers, island hop on a Kayak, mountain bike, climb mountains. Perfect place to work for the summer."

At Cycle Alaska it is important to us that you enjoy your experience working and living in Juneau. We structure our tour season in a way that provides our Guides with two days off in a row.  This allows you to make plans and enjoy your time off exploring Juneau and the outer area. There is so much to do and see here, and we love being able to see new people go out and explore. It is awe-inspiring even to the people that have called Juneau home for years.

Our staff is what creates a positive and fun-loving working environment. Our guides range in age from 15 to 75, and all have vibrant enthusiastic personalities! Working with such a wide variety of people helps to cultivate the wonderful work environment here at Cycle Alaska.

Cycle Alaska is always looking for fun, outgoing, enthusiastic, and positive personalities to share our love of Alaska with our guests. These are important pieces to being a successful guide. Positivity and enthusiasm can go a long way in providing our guests with a memorable trip.

Room and Board

Cycle Alaska offers provided housing for the 2024 Tour Season! Housing is located in downtown Juneau or on Douglas Island! A quick bike ride to the shop! We also provide all of our staff with bikes to use for the entire season! Rooms are shared, double occupancy with a single, shared bathroom. Housing is provided at a subsidized nightly rate that is deducted from paycheck. The apartments are furnished and many kitchen items are included. Past seasons' staff have enjoyed this option of housing and it makes the transition easy to our community!

IF you'd prefer to seek housing on your own, distance from the shop is something to consider. Housing on Douglas Island or in downtown Juneau is just a short walk or ride to the shop, and living there gives you a spectacular panoramic view of Mount Roberts, Mount Juneau, and Jumbo Mountain. If looking for some peace and quiet away from the city, Mendenhall Valley provides stunning views of Mendenhall Glacier, Thunder Mountain, and the surrounding mountain areas. If you choose to live in Mendenhall Valley a car is strongly recommended.

The best resources for finding housing are the Facebook group: Juneau Rentals and Housing, as well as Craigslist. Yet, please feel free to ask for assistance, and we can direct you in the right direction.

Employee Perks

  • We have a full-range rental fleet that is available to be used by our guides when not being rented out. Whether you want to go out for a road cruise or go for a trail ride to Herbert Glacier or down Eaglecrest, we will work with you to get you out to have fun.

  • An outdoor enthusiast's paradise, living in Juneau provides its residence with ample opportunities for cycling, trail running, hiking, kayaking, foraging, and fishing some of the most productive salmon waters in the southeast at the height of the salmon spawn.

  • We work with other tour operators doing industry trades which allow our employees to go on their tours at a discounted rate. You may have an opportunity to go on a whale watch tour, zipline or maybe even experience a Glacier trek!

  • Outside of the recreation opportunities, our employees receive a discount on all in-shop parts and accessories. Discounts on bikes are available after a minimum working length of time.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Arriving in Juneau can be as unique as living here for the summer. You can come by plane or you can take the ferry!

Flying: We are a short 2.5 hour flight from Seattle Airport!  No car, No problem. Juneau is a bike-friendly city that provides protected bike lanes between Mendenhall Valley and downtown Juneau. Juneau also provides public transportation that makes commuting around town easy.

Ferry Via Bellingham, WA: Take the Inside Passage via The Alaska Marine Highway which takes travelers through glacial cut fjords and Orca-filled waters. A journey that takes two days of travel from Bellingham gives the traveler the perfect chance to intimately experience the Alaskan Southeast.

Drive then Ferry: If you are looking at bringing a car to Juneau, loading up in Bellingham is easy, but if you are looking for a summer road trip, travel through Canada to Skagway or Haines takes you through some of the most beautiful country North America has to offer.

For Fun

Juneau is an all-around adventure town! With over 250 miles of hiking trails, you're sure to stay busy trying to find your favorite one. With almost all of them being multipurpose trails, you can hike, run or bike!

If you prefer water for your recreational activities, bring your kayak with you (rentals may be available) and get out on Mendenhall Lake, Auk Lake, or Auk Bay. All of which provide unparalleled views. Out on the ocean exploring gives you opportunities to see sea lions, humpback whales, and the 15,000 bald eagles that call Juneau their home waters. Maybe drop a line in the water and catch yourself some dinner. Juneau's waters carry 5 major salmon species.

Juneau also has a great rock climbing gym downtown for you to tackle routes and meet other climbers. There are also a couple of outside climbing areas. While it can be limited in the variety of rock types, Sea Cliffs give the sport climber some of the most spectacular climbing views in the area.

Juneau also has public forest service cabins that can be rented out for the night, as well as plenty of areas to go camping for the night or make a beach fire. The perfect place to catch the Big Dipper and the North Star.

Juneau may seem like just an outdoor enthusiasts' paradise, don't worry there are plenty of opportunities to take in some city life. With fantastic restaurants, a vibrant downtown, and summer nights that never seem to end, you can spend your evenings walking the boardwalk and exploring.  There are also two indoor pools, three libraries, two movie theaters, a performing arts theater, yoga studios, three gyms, four local breweries, a local distillery, and many cafes to hang out in.

Plenty of things to keep you busy and having fun around town!
