• Location: Wiscasset, Maine (On Campus, in-person)

• Schedule/ 2024 Dates: June 12, 2024 - August 11, 2024

• Reports to: Program Head and works in collaboration with VP of Marketing and Technology
Position Summary:
The Camp Photographer is responsible for capturing all of the various aspects of a Camp Chewonki experience. This position requires a self-motivated, energetic individual with proven photography skills, excellent time management skills, and a willingness to work with a team. This person will create and maintain a rich and complete photo library of the camp experience that provides parents with visual updates of their child’s summer and promotional material for marketing and recruiting purposes. The Camp Photographer is expected to live on campus for the duration of the camp season, participate fully in the camp community, and should have a passion for working with kids.
Key Duties: 
• Complete daily photography assignments around camp and on occasional day trips off-site (~4-6 hours per day).

• Curate Camp Chewonki Meta Business postings (facebook and instagram) under guidance from Camp Director.

• Edit photo sets and upload curated photos sets to Chewonki storage sites.

• Ad-hoc support to other camp activities as needed after primary photography assignments are done for the day (assigned by the program director).

• Rotating assignments to help with support staff duties (i.e. - table setting in the dining hall). 

• Practice professional presentation and communication with participants and their families, co-workers, and the public.

• Complete all necessary paperwork, i.e. incident reports, camper reports, trip reports.
• Instill joy and enthusiasm into the daily life of camp.

• Community Responsibilities:

QUALIFICATIONS
 
• Must complete fingerprinting requirements/pass criminal background check.

• 2+ years of experience with outdoor/adventure photography required.

• Experienced with Google Suite (Drive, Photos, Docs, Sheets).

• Experienced with photo editing software (Photoshop, Lightbox or similar).

• Technical photography skills, including editing and publishing.

• Interpersonal and collaborative approach to work with a co-photographer.

• Ability to be self-directed and manage your own work schedule.

Camp Chewonki Campus Head is responsible for supporting campers and cabin staff and facilitating the creation of a campus wide community.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Campus Head directly manages the Age Group Coordinators (3) and provides guidance and support to all cabin staff. The Campus Head strives to personally know as many campers as possible and work as the primary liaison on the Director Team to manage camper needs. The Campus Head expected to support the growth and development of all cabin counselors/Age Group Coordinator staff in attaining their personal best as an educator, caretaker, and employee.
Camp Chewonki is a nature-based overnight camp and expedition-based youth leadership program for boys, girls, and non-binary children. Overnight campers are aged 8-15 and spend 11 days or 3 weeks at camp. The overnight camp program focuses on building cabin community, learning skills and knowledge in a core curriculum, and experiencing backcountry travel on multi-day remote cabin trips. Participants in our Leadership Expeditions are aged 14-18 and spend 3 weeks or 5 weeks learning leadership skills, remote travel, and a robust sense of self. 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise and manage Age Group Coordinators including;

  • Conducting regular check-ins and providing guidance and support as needed.

  • Complete and deliver formal evaluations of Age Group Coordinators.

  • Act as the next level of intervention for staff and camper issues.

• Support camper experience through building relationships with campers, providing behavior intervention and conflict resolution, as needed. 

• Communicate with camper families as needed.

• Manage period off schedules and coverage liaising with the Generalist Coordinator to schedule Generalist support. 

• Act as Camp Leadership during Director time off, provide operational support as needed.

• Maintain essential duties as member of the Camp Leadership team: 

  • Meet with other Coordinator Team members and Director team to discuss and address camp concerns.

  • Participate in Leader of the Day (LoD) rotation to ensure camp schedule runs smoothly.

  • Coordinate with Mental Health staff to ensure camper needs are met. 

• Hold responsibility for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of participants; this includes:

  • Develop healthy and appropriate relationships with participants.

  • Assist cabin counselors with a daily check-in process for participants needing additional support.

  • Provide direct supervision of participants as assigned.

• Instill joy and enthusiasm into the daily life of camp.

POSITION SUMMARY

There are three Age Group Coordinators per camp and each oversees 4-7 cabins: Puffins are grades 2 & 3, Owls are grades 4 & 5, Heron/Osprey are grades 6, 7 & 8. The Age Group Coordinators are expected to support the growth and development of all staff in attaining their personal best as an educator, caretaker, and employee.
Puffin Age Group Coordinators- Dates for the Age Group Coordinator supporting the 2nd & 3rd grade age group, Puffins, are June 8th-August 1st, 2024. The Puffin program ends July 30th. Salary is prorated from base rate below.

In addition to supporting campers daily routines, Cabin Counselors work as teaching assistants in activities and collaborate with trip leaders to facilitate multi-day remote trips for their cabin. Ideal candidates will have a passion for working with children, spending time in the outdoors, and a dedication to lifelong learning.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Hold responsibility for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of participants; this includes:

  • Develop healthy and appropriate relationships with participants

  • Conduct daily check-ins with participants

  • Provide direct supervision of participants as assigned

• Live in cabins with campers and other cabin counselors; support campers in daily living routines and facilitate meal times.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Activity Counselors are responsible for preparing and facilitating lessons and keeping activity equipment and areas safe and well-maintained. Each activity has discipline-specific skills and related requirements for the activity. While Activity Counselor’s primary responsibility is instruction in their area of expertise, camp provides a dynamic workplace environment that requires creativity, flexibility and a team player approach. When not teaching or preparing their activity area, Activity Counselors are expected to support cabin coverage and work with other staff in the planning and execution of camp-wide initiatives such as evening programs, special events, and off-campus day trips. Activity counselors will be assigned age groups to directly support outside of activity work. 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Deliver an activity program that promotes developmentally appropriate learning and fun in discipline-specific skills and abilities (activity curriculum created by Chewonki staff).

• Hold responsibility for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of participants; this includes:

  • Develop healthy and appropriate relationships with participants

  • Inspect activity area and equipment regularly to ensure it is safe and appropriate for age and location;

  • Provide direct supervision of participants as assigned

• Assist Activity Coordinator planning and facilitating special events (e.g. - evening events, weekly events, once a session events, off-campus day trips).

• Support cabin coverage needs and provide bedtime coverage as assigned.

In this capacity,  they help campers adjust to camp life, develop community with their cabinmates, navigate the daily schedule, and develop the skills to be successful anywhere. Generalist Counselors are expected to be flexible and to be comfortable with a schedule that will change day-to-day, and even throughout the day as cabin needs emerge.

The overnight camp program focuses on building cabin community, building social emotional skills and knowledge in a core curriculum (including natural history, farm sciences, watercraft, the arts, and more!) and learning about backcountry travel on multi-day remote cabin trips.

Camp Chewonki Counselors are kind, empathetic, thoughtful, and fun adults who are responsible for caring for the health and well-being of all campers for the summer. They help campers adjust to camp life, build community, and develop the skills to be successful anywhere. Ideal candidates will have a passion for working with children, spending time in the outdoors, and a dedication to lifelong learning.
What you’ll do:
Watercraft Activity Counselors are responsible for preparing and facilitating lessons and keeping activity equipment and areas safe and well-maintained, teaching campers discipline-specific skills in partnership with the Outdoor Programs Department. Trip Leaders are responsible for preparing campers in the watercraft skills needed for trip, while the Watercraft Activity Counselor focuses on offering Watercraft as an optional activity, outside of that required for trip. 
While the Watercraft Activity Counselors’ primary responsibility is watercraft instruction, camp provides a dynamic workplace environment that requires creativity, flexibility and a team player approach. When not teaching or preparing their activity area, Watercraft Activity Counselors are expected to support cabin coverage and work with other staff in the planning and execution of camp-wide initiatives such as evening programs, special events, and off-campus day trips. Watercraft Activity Counselors will be assigned age groups to directly support outside of activity work. 
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Must complete fingerprinting requirements/pass criminal background check.

• Hold a valid driver’s license approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier, preferred.

• Experience working in watercraft activity area and hold relevant certification such as those from American Canoe Association or the American Red Cross Small Craft Safety

• Experience working in educational spaces, preferred.

• Current Wilderness First Aid Certification required (Chewonki will offer course prior to camp season).

• Current Lifeguard Certification, required (offered by Chewonki).

• Attend required onboarding and training sessions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lb at a time.

• Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.

• Able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.

• Able to maintain attention and a high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time
