The Employee Experience
Working at camp is the experience of a lifetime. The personal growth, the rewards of working with children, the excitement of an active, diverse community and the close friendships that you form will stay with you long after the summer ends. Working at camp will make you a better person. And that you'll take with you wherever you go. Many staff members describe their employment at Camp Rim Rock as the BEST summer of their life, and you will too!
Counselors spend their summers working, living, eating, and playing with campers and their fellow camp community. Camp will help you master real-life problem-solving skills, and you will gain invaluable qualities for your resume. As a counselor, you will have a significant and positive influence on the lives of children, and you will also gain a network of peer relations with people from around the world.
You'll have a fantastic time at Camp Rim Rock if you have an outgoing personality, a good sense of humor, strong teaching skills in your activity area, good leadership ability, and experience in supervising and instructing children.
Being a camp counselor is not all fun and games. Camp counselors need to be flexible and prepared for anything. Your first priority should always be the needs of your campers. Your own personal example influences campers not just by what you say, but also by what you do. We want our counselors to “lead by example.”
That being said: Being a camp counselor will be one of the most rewarding jobs you ever have!
Ideal Candidate
You'll have a fantastic time at Camp Rim Rock if you have an outgoing personality, a good sense of humor, strong teaching skills in your activity area, good leadership ability, and experience in supervising and instructing children. It is also essential that staff members be strong role models for our campers. And because we're working with kids, we have strict policies in many areas including alcohol, smoking, curfew, etc.
While it is preferable that our staff members have some experience working with children, this is not a prerequisite. The capacity to provide warm, mature guidance is most important. This is your chance to let your creative energy flow! We consider our staff to be talented and inspiring young women. They are invaluable at Rim Rock. We invite you to join this successful team.
Room and Board
Room, board, and laundry service is provided! Counselors live in screened cabins with the campers. Bath houses are steps away from the cabins with great water pressure and modern amenities. There are two staff houses on camp with wifi, TV, and lockers for electronics and other personal items. Meals are served family-style in our dining hall, and we are able to accommodate most dietary restrictions.
Employee Perks
Camp will cover the cost of any additional training required for your role, such as lifeguard certifications, CPR/First Aid, or archery instructor certification.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Some counselors choose to drive to camp in their own vehicles so that they have use of them on their days off. We also pick up arriving staff from Washington Dulles or Reagan National airports. Camp Rim Rock is about 2 hours from Washington DC, and we are always happy to help figure out travel logistics for our staff!
For Fun
Camp Rim Rock is close to many outdoor attractions and activities such as white water rafting, hiking trails, and national parks. We are also located near Berkeley Springs, a historic spa and art-filled town.
There is also a lot to do on camp property during time off - with 500 acres there is plenty of space to hike, bike, swim, stargaze, and just relax in nature.
