We are searching for a cook to join our family at our remote ranch in the Bridger Teton national Forest. We are located 30 miles from Alpine up the Greys River Road. (Dirt Road)
We are rustic yet comfortable with limited power and fresh spring water. We are family owned and operated for the last 30 years. We keep a small crew on hand of no more than 6 people at a time on staff. This does change depending on time of year and events being held at the ranch. We offer overnight accommodations, meals, and horseback riding along with weddings and larger events. Please visit our website https://boxylodge.com for pictures and more information on the Box Y Lodge.
Job Description:
We are looking for a self-reliant, motivated, and experienced individual to fill the position of ranch cook. This position is a very important part of our business as we have a long-standing reputation built on our food. That being said there's always room for improvement and new ideas for our menus. The meals are served buffet style and only one entree is served at a time. Homestyle cooking is preferred by many of our guests but a more elevated menu is often needed as well. An average day of people is anywhere from 10 to 25 people. We often serve up to 150 to 250 people for events. Those events are extra-staffed to keep up with the volume. Days off are not scheduled but can be discussed at the time of interview.
Job Duties:
Cook will be responsible for:
- Morning and evening meals
- Cleaning of kitchen and dishes
- Food rotations and organization
- Menu planning
These above duties will not be without help. Oftentimes times everyone on the ranch pitches in to help everyone get the work done efficiently and swiftly. Prep cooking, grocery shopping and hauling, food rotations, meal planning, and clean up are all duties that you will be assisted with when others are able.
Job Requirements:
You must be over 21 years old to apply for this position. At Least 3 to 5 years of experience is required. Any experience past this is helpful but not necessary. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Must have a valid driver's license and your own vehicle. Smoking is allowed. No drug use. Alcohol abuse will not be tolerated and result in immediate termination. We do not wear uniforms but do require that the clothing you work in is clean and free of holes and stains. Clothing needs to be properly fitted to you. (nothing too tight or purposely oversized.) tattoos and piercings are fine to be displayed. NO pets.
Room and board:
You will live in the main lodge with the rest of our family. We are in the process of creating separate lodging for employees, but past years of bad weather and lumber inflation have slowed this process. You will have a private bedroom with a queen bed, dresser and chair. Bed linens and towels will be provided. There is an onsite washer and dryer for you to use as well. The bathroom is a shared space with at least two other people. There is also a washhouse located separate of the main lodge that you will have access to as well. We are all use to living in close quarters and do our best to be clean and quiet to respect each other's space. Your room and food will be covered by the ranch. If you use your vehicle for ranch business your gas will also be covered. If you require extra storage or storage outside of your private room for belongings please address that in the interview.
We do have two house dogs that live with us in the main lodge. They are very kind and quiet dogs. They will not bother you if you do not wish to be around them though are very fond of people.
General Questions and Information:
If you have a camper or camper van that you wish to bring to the ranch to live in instead of the provided room, that will need to be discussed during the interview. This is a seasonal job and is not paid by the hour or day. You are paid monthly and the starting wage allows for increase given the level of effort you put into your job. Tips are split fairly among staff. Any other experience or knowledge of horses, carpentry, housekeeping, or outdoors in general is helpful and may improve your chances of hire.
