Come enjoy the midnight sun 35 miles North of the Arctic Circle in Bettles, Alaska this summer.
Come experience the Arctic in our very small, fly-in-only community. Bettles is located just south of the Brooks Range Mountains and less than 1/2 mile from the shores of the Koyukuk River. We are looking for outdoor maintenance workers who love PAINTING.
Our summer season starts approximately June 3 and ends on August 30 for this position. However, we are always looking for full-time help in the off-season as well.
We are currently hiring outdoor maintenance workers. Responsibilities of this job will be primarily first stripping, then painting and staining lodge log buildings. You will need to be comfortable working from a ladder at 2 story heights as these are 2 story log buildings. However, when weather doesn’t allow painting, you will be splitting wood, weed whacking, cutting grass, taking down small dilapidated buildings and minor building repairs. If inclement weather precluded outdoor work, then inside work will include cleaning and organizing shops and airplane hangar, indoor painting and work on employee housing.
There will be a team of three (3) maintenance workers performing these duties and it is essential to be flexible and have a good attitude.
This position pays $20 per hour and you can expect to work 40 hours per week (no overtime). There is also an end-of-season bonus, based on performance, up to $2,500. Room and board (3 meals per day) are also included. You can expect a "dry" private sleeping room (i.e. short walk to the bathroom, shower, and laundry). The employee rooms are comfortable, but rustic.
You will have the opportunity to go flightseeing on your days off, if there are seats available, to the two Arctic National Parks. You will also be able to enjoy leisurely river floats and enjoy other outdoor activities.
Expect physically hard work in Bettles, where every job requires standing, lifting, negotiating uneven ground, climbing up and down stairs, and hard work no matter what position you have with our lodge. This specific job requires the ability to work from ladders and working at 2 story heights.
