Manages the safe and efficient flow of people and supplies through the Baranof marina. This is accomplished through supervision of the dock jack team and by building strong working relationships with fishing guides, maintenance, and other managers. 

Outcomes:

  • Guides are able to access the equipment and support necessary to execute their trips
    • Equipment in the tackle shack is both accessible and secure
    • Clear records including inventories and vessel maintenance logs are maintained
    • Equipment and boats are in good working order before running trips
    • Cedars runs are conducted as needed to deliver guest fish
  • Risks on the dock are managed actively
    • The risks of slips, trips, falls are monitored and mitigated
    • Dock staff support the docking, loading, and unloading of boats
    • The fillet table is monitored for hazards: knives, slime, obstructions to foot traffic
    • The Dock manager maintains an overview of safety in the marina, scanning for hazards
    • The dock is clean and organized
  • Effective communication and working relationships are developed with guides and maintenance technicians at Ketchikan Marine
    • Leans and utilizes fleet management software (Fleetio) is used to track vessel hours and service
    • Guides are held to a standard of vessel stewardship
  • Maintains awareness of tides, weather, and the daily schedule and their impact on operations

Competencies                                               

  • Attention to detail. Identifies areas of dysfunction for improvement
  • Communication.  Interfaces professionally and effectively with Baranof team members and our community partners
  • Calm under pressure. Quality of work remains consistent under extreme pressure, such as when volume overwhelms the dock or time frames are tight.
  • Information Technology. Proficient with texting and Garmin devices: Navigation Unit, VHF, InReach systems. Requires basic computer skills.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs
  • Boathandling experience preferred
  • Maintenance experience preferred, especially with outboard engines and boats
  • Experience with trailering boats preferred
