The Employee Experience
Working at Alta's Rustler Lodge is an experience like no other!
With 70 employees living on site we quickly become a family. Many lifelong friendships are made over our 5 1/2 month winter season.
Coming from a variety of backgrounds, we bond over our love for the outdoors (skiing in particular) and providing top-notch customer service. Family run, we take pride in what we do and we love the life we have in Alta. We are ski in/ski out so this is a REAL ski job!! All schedules allow for ski time daily and it's as easy as going to work, finish your shift, and head out to the slopes. In the evenings, employees spend time together enjoying our lodge amenities (pool, fitness center, spa) as well as events with other canyon employees offsite. For those living off-site, a personal and shared ski locker is provided so the same convenience is available. Come join us for the best winter of your life!
Ideal Candidate
We hope to attract skiers and outdoor enthusiasts!
Our ideal candidate is hardworking, self-motivated, customer service orientated, and has a passion for the outdoors and skiing.
Alta is a small town and skiing is what is going on. Living on-site affords employees the ability to ski before, after, and between shifts. It's the perfect work/play balance. What we lack in nightlife, shopping, etc. is well made up for in our snowfall and close-knit employee community! Most employees live on-site so the ability to get along with and respect others is imperative.
Room and Board
Room and board is available for live-in positions at a cost of $250/month (payroll deduction). Employees enjoy three meals per day and have 24-hour access to food in our employee dining area. Full-time employees not living in the lodge receive full-time food privileges along with a personal locker.
On-site housing is dormitory-style with 3- 4 people sharing a room with a bath down the hall. Certain supervisory positions have double or single-room options.
Off-site housing is available in a limited capacity for certain positions at a cost of $200/month (payroll deduction). A snow worthy vehicle is required, as public transportation to Alta ends at 6 p.m.
Incentives are given to those who choose to find their own housing.

Getting Here and Getting Around
Alta is located in Little Cottonwood Canyon, just 45 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City and Salt Lake International airport. This makes transportation from Salt Lake City International airport, bus station, and train station easy when the weather is clear. During ski season the UTA Bus runs regularly up and down the canyon and a bus pass is included with your ski pass.
Little Cottonwood Canyon is steep and narrow, with walls extending up to ~5,000 ft above the canyon bottom, and is accessed by a 7-mile-long, dead-end road. The town of Alta is located at ~8,500 ft elevation and receives an average of ~500 inches of snow a year. The heavy snowfall combined with the steep, narrow, winding canyon road isolates the town and makes travel difficult at times during the winter. Because of these winter conditions, combined with limited parking in the town of Alta, we discourage employees from bringing cars. All vehicles in the canyon during the winter months (November – May) are required to be equipped with chains or have 4x4 and snow tires.
For Fun
SKIING IS FUN!!
Alta's Rustler Lodge is ski-in/ski-out. You are able to maximize your ski time before, after, and in between shifts!!! The Wasatch Mountains are spectacular and, in addition to resort skiing, offer world class backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, biking, and rock climbing.
In addition to skiing, there is a vibrant mountain community within Little Cottonwood Canyon. Alta Community Enrichment (ACE) is a local non-profit organization that hosts a variety of events for us in the winter. These vary from music, movies, arts & crafts, speakers, and healthy well-being. Your ski pass works on the UTA bus which can get you to Snowbird which is one mile down the road and into Salt Lake City for free.
Lifelong friendships are made in our ski season. Come and have the best winter of your life at Alta's Rustler Lodge!
