    Catering Crew Member

    Summary: The catering team prepares fresh Alaskan-sourced seafood, Alaskan exotic game meats, and locally grown vegetables to create a unique dining experience for our guests. Food is prepped, plated, and placed on rolling racks for quick distribution aboard our vessels. The team arranges a buffet with delicious and attractive Alaskan foods, flowers, and accents. Designated members are given the training and time to design our floral arrangements. The crew works as a team and each crew member has a recipe and workstation to prepare food. All crew must share in the cleaning of the facility. This position is both shore-side and aboard a vessel.
     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Follow our unique set of core values, what we call True Alaskan Hospitality as defined in our Mission Statement.
    • Maintain a clean appearance and uphold positive cultural standards.
    • Must be well groomed, and in clean uniform every shift.
    • Set up and take down food displays aboard the vessel in a timely manner.
    • Operate and transport carts of food/equipment on and off of vessels.
    • Ensuring all relevant equipment is loaded/unloaded from the vessel surrounding the evening whale quests.
    • Serve food and drinks to guests with high levels of hospitality.
    • Memorize and be able to describe the food being served and be able to answer questions accordingly.
    • Understanding the story behind the food and being able to give brief introductions of the food to 100+ people on a microphone.
    • Accurately follow all instructions in food preparation and food safety guidelines.
    • Prepare all food with a focus on efficiency and presentation.
    • Always maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the buffet.
    • Rotate all food products in a first-in, first-out format.
    • Clean and sanitize the work area and assist in keeping the overall facility clean & sanitized.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned and as directed.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Cook

    Summary: At Allen Marine, we offer several avenues of food service to our guests, aboard the vessels, grab-n-go, and at the lodges. For example, Alaskan culinary experience, lunch boxes, and pastries aboard the vessel and Orca Point Lodge. As a cook you are responsible for the transport, inventory, safety, and sanitization of all food production, this will be at the direction of the Sous Chef. Our focus is to provide a quality, locally sourced meal while maintaining an impeccably clean operation for a five-star tour experience for each guest. Employees must be 18 years of age. This position is both shoreside and lodge-based.
     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Maintain a clean appearance and uphold positive cultural standards.
    • Always be presentable, professional, and kind on duty.
    • Work at the direction of the Sous Chef and Food and Beverage management team.
    • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and guests.

    Crew Captain & Lodge Mechanic

    $23.00 - $26.00 / hour

    Summary: Requires a USCG master's license (25 ton minimum) and an FCC marine radio operator's permit.  Prior experience in the marine tourism industry, particularly on passenger vessels is desirable.  Preference is given to applicants with knowledge of Outboard engines, preferrable Mercury's, diesel engines and pumps, waterjet propulsion, and electrical systems. Must be able to work independently and maintain crew boat and assist with Lodge maintenance on Generators, plumbing, and heating machinery. Food & Beverage and remote Lodge operations knowledge is preferred.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Transport Lodge crew to & from Orca Point Lodge, approximately 30-45 mins from Allen Marine facility. Make multiple runs during the day for supplies and crew swaps.
    • Communicate with Port Captain to identify problems and expedite repairs. Maintain a regular maintenance schedule on vessel & lodge equipment: Oil & coolant levels, fuel filters, batteries, and other machinery.
    • Maintain and assess safety protocols of Orca Point Lodge and Crew Vessel. Ensure proper PPE and fire prevention standards within the operations.
    • Supervise and assist in daily maintenance out at Orca Point Lodge: cleaning, water levels, sewage fuel needs and restocking. Coordinate and assist with routine maintenance and start-up on Generators & Pumps; dip, add & change oil as needed, painting, landscaping, etc.
    • Supervise and assist crew loading and load outs, safety orientation/demonstration, emergency response. Plan and execute emergency drills, equipment checks and safety meetings in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations and AMT policy.
    • Maintain all navigational & electrical equipment in good working order; keep logs and/or ship/company documents, as directed. Provide daily operations report to office.
    • Work in conjunction with the Lodge Manager for scheduling and operations at the Lodge. Pre and Post meetings with lodge and F&B staff to solve problems and logistics at the lodge.
    • Working with Lodge staff to maintain firepit, yard games, observation tank and general upkeep of the Lodge.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Experience on passenger vessels and/or experience operating vessels in Southeast Alaska required. Required minimum 25-ton license.

    Food and Beverage Manager

    Summary: The position is multifaceted and involves close collaboration with the Director of Food and Beverage and Executive Chef to develop effective food menus, wine lists, and cocktail menus. The primary objective is to ensure exceptional product quality and deliver a seamless, elevated experience for our guests. This role encompasses oversight of the Orca Point Lodge and requires the ability to work independently while adhering to the plan set forth by the Food and Beverage Director. Effective written and verbal communication with other departments and vendors is crucial. The successful candidate will lead and inspire a talented team in the maritime industry, with a focus on food and beverage. They must possess a passion for excellence and infuse that enthusiasm into all aspects of their work. Alignment with our vision for exceptional cuisine and hospitality is essential. This individual will take pleasure in leading a seasonal team by selecting, training, evaluating, motivating, and coaching. Regular attendance at operational meetings is expected to ensure efficient coordination and cooperation between departments. The leader in this role will be visible in the operation, providing recognition, promoting positive public relations, and addressing guest concerns or special requests. Proficiency in food and beverage service, cost control, labor control, maintenance, merchandising, and accounting, as well as familiarity with food and beverage computer systems, is required.     Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Work in conjunction with the Executive Chef to oversee the training and scheduling of all staff.
    • Create and professionalize operational standards and checklists for all positions.
    • Create and maintain an executable and profitable food and beverage program aboard our tour vessels.
    • Maintain a proficient inventory of alcoholic beverages and premade cocktails for the tour vessels. 
    • Creating a revenue stream with ROI and setting us positively apart from the competition.
    • Monitor quality and efficiency of tour operation and review crew performance on a weekly basis; report audits to the Food and Beverage Director.
    • Conduct daily pre-service and post-service meetings with crew; maintain morale and execute company programs of progressive discipline and problem resolution.
    • Document all personnel issues and route copies to the corporate human resource team in Sitka.
    • Advise and monitor the assistant lodge manager to delegate specific duties while on-site at the lodge.
    • Order and manage all provisions and inventory for the F&B department and coordinate with the supply coordinator for beverage needs.
    • Create a schedule and coordinate with the operations team for daily transport by vessel to the lodge.
    • Create and execute cleaning and inventory SOPs for all storage areas on the BIMA and at the lodge.
    • Oversee maintenance of all on-site equipment and machinery
    • Keep all permits and certificates current.
    • Work closely with the Director of Retail to source and merchandise all locally-made products in the lodge gift shop.
    • Maintain a constructive relationship with the Administrative Coordinator regarding point-of-sale electronic devices, retail sales, and daily reconciliations.
    • Interact professionally with the entire shore management team, vessel crew members, and various vendors.
    • You will also be responsible for the development, training, and disciplinary process of staff members.
    • Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors.
    • Prioritize, identify, and coordinate projects to be completed during the winter months. Prepare work orders and provide updates/reports to corporate.
    • Aid crew in enhancing guest experience including performing excellent service recovery when necessary.

    Lodge Naturalist / Groundskeeper Assistant

    Summary: The Naturalist and Groundskeeper will interact with groups of up to 140 guests to provide information about the local marine life, plants, and natural history of Southeast Alaska. This position works with the team to provide a quality locally sourced meal and always maintains an impeccably clean lodge for a five-star tour experience for each guest.  Requires public speaking ability.  A Biology and/or natural history background is helpful. Employees must be 18 years of age. This is a shore-based position.
     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Provide information for guests and answer questions regarding the marine tide pools, local plants, and history of the island.
    • Move inventory, supplies and garbage between Auke Bay and Orca Point Lodge.

    • Perform groundskeeping duties such as watering plants, scrubbing the deck and maintaining the cleanliness of the tide pool shelter.

    Administrative Assistant - Accounting

    This position is full-time seasonal. Under the supervision of the Office Manager and at the direction of the Administrative Coordinator the assistant provides administrative support to the sales, retail, and operation managers in a fast-paced Alaska tour operation. This position is shore-based.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Availability to work entire season without interruption and be available to attend the 40-hour pre-season training program is preferred.
    • Previous office or customer service experience a must; and previous experience in the visitor industry and/or a related industry preferred.
    • Must be able to demonstrate accurate and efficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
    • Bookkeeping and money counting experience is a plus.
    • Job requires a strong multi-tasker with highly developed communication & organizational skills.
    • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude in a high stress & fast paced work environment.

This day lodge is a tour venue that serves an assortment of traditional SE Alaskan dishes while encouraging guests to explore and participate in a variety of activities.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Oversee training, scheduling and supervision of entire staff, including kitchen/bar and gift shop crew, leads for site and grounds.

    Diesel Mechanic

    Summary: Mechanic performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and related equipment. The objective is to effectively diagnose engine problems in a timely manner and coordinate repairs with the company engineering staff. The Mechanic will be directly responsible for performing repairs and engine overhauls in accordance with technical manuals and company policies. This is a non-supervisory role but will have the help of Mechanic’s Assistants. Reports to Port Engineer.

    • Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine diesel engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals.

    • Experience on passenger carrying vessels and/or experience operating vessels in Southeast Alaska required. Required minimum 25-ton license.
    • Mechanical aptitude, engine room experience preferred. Diesel mechanics or electrical/electronics background helpful.
    • Must be able to build team and maintain morale with crew to provide quality experience for customers.
    • Must be able to provide commentary to guests.
    • Must be able to lift and move objects of up to 50 lbs. as required.
    • Must be drug free (pre-employment and random drug testing is Coast Guard required).
    • Must be able to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays.
    • Must be clean, well groomed, courteous, honest, and most important, reliable.

    Pay: DOE. Limited Benefits. This is a seasonal full time position from mid-April to October. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work through the end of the season without interruption. An end of season bonus will be paid to employees who complete their contract in good standing.

    Deckhand

    $17.00 / hour

    Summary: Requires basic seamanship skills.  Mechanical aptitude and some experience with diesel engines required.  Assist Captain to monitor vessel systems and troubleshoot problems.  Interact with passengers and perform customer service duties.  Provide for passenger safety while underway and maintain impeccably clean vessel at all times.  Must be able to work as a team member and be comfortable interacting with guests. This position is located in a remote port with few services, please take some time to learn about Glacier Bay prior to applying. 

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Check all engine/jet fluids upon arriving on vessel each morning, bring all equipment online, log all entries and report any problems to Captain.
    • Assist with passenger boarding, safety orientation/demonstration, emergency response and crowd control.
    • Complete routine engine room checks underway, making minor mechanical repairs and adjustments as necessary, and assisting crew members to ensure that passengers receive optimum tour quality and premium customer service.
    • Assist Captain in wheelhouse with navigating and/or wildlife sighting as directed.
    • Maintain vessel appearance, with regards to cleanliness and safety, in engine and jet rooms, in voids and on decks. Assist other crew with cabin, galley and heads.
    • Under direction of Captain, complete all routine vessel maintenance on a daily basis. This will include, but not be limited to: cleaning, sanitation pumping, restocking and refueling.
    • Assist Captain to perform required safety checks of all essential equipment on a weekly basis. Maintain current and accurate logs.
    • Work with Port Engineer to complete all mandatory vessel maintenance on a monthly basis, including but not limited to oil/filter changes, zinc/belt replacement, etc.
    • Identify problems, inform Port Engineer and assist in performing needed repairs.
    • Perform other duties under supervision of Captain.
    • Vessel duties include line handing, assist with docking / undocking of the vessel and mooring with cruise ships as requested by vessel captain.
       

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Prefer experience on passenger carrying vessels.
    • Mechanical aptitude, engine room experience preferred. Diesel
      mechanics or electrical/electronics background helpful.
    • Must be able to work as a team with other crew to provide quality experience for customers, including answering questions and providing commentary.
    • Must be drug free (pre-employment screening and enrollment
      in random drug testing program is Coast Guard required).
    • Must be able to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays. Days off will be scheduled but must be willing to be flexible in meeting tour demand.
    • Must be clean, well groomed, courteous, honest, and most important, reliable.
